Why yall hatin' on physical cosmology?

Postby UnhealthyTruthseeker » Thu Jan 14, 2010 7:02 pm

Alright, this thread is similar to the morality of homosexuality thread. I want those of you who object to modern physical cosmology to justify why you do. What is your problem with the big bang/expanding universe or with galaxy formation or solar system formation, etc.?
A little homework for you!

What part of L(f(t)) = Int(exp(-s*t)*f(t),t,0,inf) don't you understand?

There's not enough mud. Well, not enough nearby mud. Mars should have been entirely mud. *nod*

It's not so much the subject, it's those who espouse it, who can stand them?

You hate Stephen Hawking and Roger Penrose? They're pretty mild mannered.

I've no idea why people have a problem with cosmology. It's not like it's unprovable fringe science or something. However, I personally find the quantum world more interesting.

I love it, especially as it's classic '...and then a miracle occurred...' physics of the big holes in equations kind. Which is not to dismiss it, I just like the creativity (something sorely lacking in a lot of physics). Tachyons, for example: genius.

A friend of mine actually took classes with him. He apparently refused to take time to answer questions. Just came into class, started lecture, finished and left. Granted, it may be because it's hard for him to, you know, talk.

Interesting, is that a relatively recent consensus? Regardless, I still like the thinking.

But the great minds of Samantha Carter and Rodney McKay accept the concept. ;)

Oh, hell, I should've thought of that. The closest I got was like "Revelations" and couldn't remember what was IN that chapter, so dismissed it.

So, are there any people here that have a problem with cosmology? That's what this thread is for.

To be honest, I've no idea, he might be a saint but that would've destroyed my point.

I do think a lot of public figure scientists could be a little more understanding of people in general, that what's obvious to them is, for a variety of reasons, not obvious to others.

Some are very good, some quite quickly show their frustration, I can understand it but it doesn't help their cause sometimes.

You'll never explain anything to anyone by pointing out how stupid they are.
