There are not always separate things. I don't particularly care enough to know if Emerson is a paid consultant for Fox News or not, but often the people being interviewed are in fact employees of the station in one capacity or another.

Stations in the United States don't in this sense have official designations that are controlled from a central committee or anything. Someone earlier pointed out that Fox News whistleblower case, but I'll give a different interpretation of the ruling in that it's an effort to protect the fourth estate, as annoying as that sounds. Once the government puts itself in the position of being the arbiter of what is and is not 'true' in the delivery of news the news is no longer an independent quantity, so the government in order to maintain a free press can't interfere even if a station is being a total and blatant asshat. The idea is that the consumer then has to be the vigilant one in calling this shit out, but as we know this is not without its own issues.

Also, that apology is the most direct and clear I've ever heard from someone like this who says something asinine. Usually they double down on this shit and talk about how everyone is being mean to them and misquoting them. But this dude was all, "Yeah no, that was stupid of me." I mean, this is so stupid that I don't know that it really makes it better, but I'm not used to them just outright going, "Nope, that was stupid. Sorry" without passing the buck in some way or another.

The reporter works for Fox and is held under editorial bias so one could argue she's not at fault, but she has a duty to not live her life under such editorial pressure. There's like one good commentator on Fox - the one who stood up to Bill O'Reilly in a live discussion.
