Appropriate for terrorists, though. We need some shock value in our punishments for terrorists. Releasing them after 20 years is not very good at doing anything. Except converting inmates to salafism.

Anyway how about re-implementing the republican oath all religious ministers had to take under the Convention's rule? I suggest those who'll refuse ( fundies ), be kicked out of France for life. Also, close fundie Mosques ( I heard one of the brothers was going to one, that's ridiculous that he could in the first place.

Republican Mosques or nothing.

Hurr, total cliché dating back to the 18th century. I've heard idiot americans claiming that french women don't shave their armpits or whatever. Total idiocy from A to Z.

I doubt that the death penalty has any shock value for terrorists, given how those terrorists generally love the idea of being killed - thus ending up looking like martyrs for the next generation of terrorists. I guess they would hate much more the idea of rotting in jail like the common criminals they are - nothing different from mafiosi, robbers, or rapists.

Releasing them after 20 years is not very good at doing anything.

This. So, basically, we only need to bring back the life sentences.

Except converting inmates to salafism.

That's also a problem. Lots of countries in Europe need a massive overhaul of their prison system.

Anyway how about re-implementing the republican oath all religious ministers had to take under the Convention's rule?

I don't think it's a good idea. This makes religious ministers basically equivalent to public officials. Also, one could LIE while taking an oath, then hold perfectly normal PUBLIC religious functions, and continue fostering fundamentalism and anti-republican values in private cerimonies.

close fundie Mosques

This, absolutely. Just like any kind of violence-supporting instance. Religion is just one out of many aspects of culture, and it shouldn't be treated differently.

Republican Mosques or nothing.

You can't get them by an edict ordering them to quit being fundie. You can get them by enacting integration policies to the maximum possible extent - and through an extensive intelligence network to spot the violence-supporters before they can turn their idiocy into actions.

Problem is: France's carceral population is very muslim and arabic. The opportunities for terrorists to convert people there are endless. So at least put them in a special prison ( but everyone will scream "boohoohoo Guantanamo"... ). I'd probably re-open Cayenne. Minus the concentration camp atmosphere of course.

This. So, basically, we only need to bring back the life sentences.

UMP and PS do not have the balls necessary to do that, and proved it.

No, I don't mean to make them government workers, which is what the First French Republic did. Just, make them swear an oath, and check that they are indeed acting accordingly. Punishment for not doing so should be jail or exile.

Eh, but stupid stereotypes can be funny!

Wikipedia says France does have life imprisonment but parole is typically granted after 18-22 years.

Yeah, and that's systematic. So that's a bullshit life imprisonment. Like in Norway.

It also says in extreme cases inmates have to wait 30 years. That's not good but it's a bit better I suppose.

Islamic leaders in Norway has at least now expressed a disdain towards the rights of free expression to the extent that it involves Muhammad.

At least it was not as badly phrased as some Swedish journalists who questioned the innocence on those that were killed, because, yknow, satire is such a malicious crime in their uber politically correct minds, but yeah, there stands no right not to be offended and no legal requirement prohibiting others to offend, and it should remain as such.

Just watched the video of the supermarket guy being killed.
Pretty cool. They couldn't stop shooting him even when he was already dead.

They were making sure he was. They probably were being emotional about the fact some of their colleagues got killed, too.

Last time it was checked, France was the most racist country in Europe. Second behind Russia, if you count them in Europe.

If France was racist, I'd know about it- but they fall far short of my expectations. Now Japan on the other hand, I can't be any prouder of. The Japanese allow hardly any immigration and are very good at keeping Japan for the Japanese.
