You'll find that free speech extremists tend to view legal recourse against insults as something they feel doesn't exist. It does not have to be universal to do so.

Yeah, did you not know? Protesting against a religion which has a core figure praising those who murder others that have made fun of Islam in brutal ways and commands them to fight until there is no more disbelief is very, very hostile to oppressed cultural identities.

Nevermind that if Islam would just reform to something more concrete than 'westernized muslims' and adapt a doctrine which unlike all the other Islamic schools of jurisprudence detests violence for religious means, does not want to enforce sharia, spiritualizes fully Jihad ect ect and promotes friendship with other faiths, then there would not be much of a problem.
