Your Worst Experience With Technology

Postby SP Rebellion » Wed Dec 10, 2014 8:16 pm

Hello, fellow NSers! I made this thread because recently the company I work for (Tesco) Had a huge-ass server blackout. Being the only one in the Carlisle office (Heart of all server operations), It was up to me. I had to get the server back online ASAP. Soon enough, complaints were coming in about the website being down. I worked 5 extra hours to fix the server, with little compensation from Tesco.
(An Eddie Stobart lorry driver even yelled at me because he could not file his digital paperwork!). After a bit of cussing and overtime, one of my collegues arrived and we finished the job.

So NS, What was YOUR worst experience with Technology?

There was this one time all of the robots rose up in rebellion in order to kill all of humanity. That wasn't fun.

We once got a TV and set it up, digital. It broke and stopped working two days after purchase.
If we affirm one moment, we thus affirm not only ourselves but all existence. For nothing is self-sufficient, neither in us ourselves nor in things; and if our soul has trembled with happiness and sounded like a harp string just once, all eternity was needed to produce this one event—and in this single moment of affirmation all eternity was called good, redeemed, justified, and affirmed.

Printers, it is like they deliberately make them as crap as possible. Flimsy, badly designed, seemingly merely an excuse to make you buy ridiculously expensive ink cartridges, and they last about as long as a tuna sandwich.

Not electronics but more of mechanical and electrical, the aquarium systems I work with are pretty prone to issues from some design flaws combined with age. Leaky piping, busted valves, occasional drips causing shock hazards with the built-in lighting, and clogged pump intakes, cavitation from the reservoirs getting too low and power outages all causing the main systems to backflow, turning the pump room into a pond and on occasion requiring a few hours to solve and clean up. Best part is, I'm the only person left who knows how the damned things work, so if anything goes remotely wrong I get called to rush on over and see what's happening.
Also, chocobos.

I had an MP3 player with a few hundred songs on it straight up die on me. Still no reason why to this day, other than maybe the internal battery kicked out (keep in mind it could be charged, but I'm assuming some kind of battery was used to hold the charge). A LOT of the songs on there weren't saved onto my youtube account, my computer or any of my USB's, so until I remember all the songs I put on there that I didn't have copies of somewhere, I'll be missing quite a few songs! Unless I get it fixed long enough to get the songs onto a USB that is, but I have no idea if that can be done or not at this point.

Actually, mine works a lot better than some because I downloaded something called "Microsoft Shell" or something, which basically made the computer have some of the things windows 7 had (like an actual start button!). Still, I think windows 8.1 pretty much did the same, so not sure if it really did much now. :lol2: Still, made the computer a lot more useable for a while.
