That thread had potential, but the OP really sucked. Either way, fellow NSGers, if there was one thing you could change in your country or in the world's history, what would it be? I'm tempted to say I'd annul Hitler, but I'm not sure what a world without the outcome of World War II would look like and I'm quite sure it wouldn't look very good. So instead, I'd prevent the 1973 oil crisis, which means Carter would have gained a second term (annulling Reagan and his fucked up foreign policy) and that the Western world wouldn't have suffered one of the most turbulent eras in its economic history.

I would convince Walter Freeman to do some actual research into how destructive his form of lobotomizing someone was, and try to prevent the lobotomizing of over 70,000 people.

Seriously, if we neutralize that guy we automatically neutralize the Second Republic, Jango, Brizola, the military regime, the nationalist left, the economic consensus that unfortunately still lingers until this day and probably a lot of other bad things as well.

With all the bombing, invading Germany from the east and west, shelling Berlin, and such I think he had a fair idea that they were coming to get him.

I, like the OP, have a knee jerk reaction that tells me that I'd stop hitler from rising to power, which would prevent WW2. However, WW2's aftermath led to the creation of NATO, the UN, and laid a framework for worldwide policies that were more focused on co-operation and peace. But, perhaps it's selfish to say "I wouldn't stop hitler because the world today is arguably better than it would've been without WW2. So, I'll say what I think is ethically right, and say that I would stop Hitler.

Invariably someone always wants to stop Hitler, and stopping Hitler means I don't exist.

Or persuade the signers of the Treaty of Versailles to be lenient on Germany and point evidence that Germany didn't cause the war, and that all the European powers did.

Stop/Reduce the number of deaths in Mao's great famine.
