I'm just making fun of the notion some people have that when we die a glowing something (I use ball cause you all have seen one, the soul) abandons the body and goes up into heaven to prance around fluffy clouds with little chubby angels. :p

Chubby?

Cracked did a pretty good Article on why Angels should "scare the shit out of people if ever seen in their true form according to the bible" (not the actual title).

Does that look chubby to you?

This. Yes.

We're coming from different traditions.

They can't even argue the point without essentially conceding evolution in part has happened, AiG is about as serious a source as The Room is a good film

Excuse me, The Room is a great movie :p

Humans are animals, up to the belief of the animal if they have one or not.

Yes humans are animals, souls have not been proven so it is unknown if anything has them.

Yes humans are animals. I doubt that the soul is something that's physically real but I think the concept of a "soul" is something that's exclusive to humans.

My response:

Actually scripture teaches that animals have a spirit - the breath of life - but humans are the ones who rule the earth and the animals. Animals are ignorant and do not have a soul (there is a difference between the soul of a human and the non-soul life of an animal).

At any rate, do you think animals have souls? Are humans animals?

Souls don't exist. And, by definition, yes humans are animals.
BUT if you consider Souls sentience, no only humans have that.
If you consider it conscence then animals and humans have that
If you consider it life then everything, including bacteria, have them.

Torah teaches us that animals have a living spirit.

The definition of animal is "Those things that aren't human but still move around and kinda look similar sometimes."

No, the concept of a soul is silly.

Yes, humans are animals. Any biologist will tell you that.

As for souls, there is no evidence for their existence at all, and no theoretical basis to suggest their existence, which is where the matter begins and ends for me.

That's actually kind of fucking awesome. Some like 4th dimensional transition shit. I'm almost positive the authors of the bible must've been on some sort of trippy ass drug. I want some.

Further credence that the figures in the Bible, Torah, etc. were some heavy shroom takers.

Are humans animals, do they have souls?

Does it matter.

Define what a soul is.

Does A&B only ever post so he gets a chance to say "because bible"

It depends on what you're viewing "animal" as meaning, I suppose. By scientific definition, then yes, humans are animals. But as far as it meaning a beast with animalistic qualities, then no, humans are not animals.

One has to be careful when dealing with the terms "life", "spirit", and "soul", because A) they all can mean different things from one another and B) each of them can have multiple meanings. Certainly, animals are gifted with a "spirit" in the sense that they have the "breath of life", but they do not have a SOUL, as in, a spiritual embodiment of a person that can pass into Heaven after bodily death on Earth. Only humans are granted that.

How do you know? For all you know I could go to Heaven too and you'll all catch Ebola in the afterlife. At least you'll have that weird doohicky with the eyes to provide you with supportive care.

I agree with this mostly, only thing I might argue on is animals going to Heaven. For the Atheists, just assume for the sake of argument that souls and Heaven exist.

Heaven is perfect. In order to be perfect, it must be slightly diferent for everyone, since we all have a diferent version of perfect. In my version at least-and many others- animals have to be there to be perfect. Therefore animals are in Heaven. Which means either Heaven has its own animals that never lived on Earth, or that animals have souls and go to Heaven.
