Here's a quick lesson: You can breathe if you can say, "I can't breathe."

And he resisted arrest when he said, "Don't touch me please." and tried to get his arm away from the police officer. Jerky movements like that set cops on edge and that is why he was restrained.

Maybe he used the last breathe air in his lungs to plea to the officers that he cannot breathe?

Shit.

If you have the ability to speak words, that requires breath. If you can speak a whole sentence you can definitely breathe.

yeah I'm not expecting the police to go all Jackie Chan Shoryuken or anything - just a more skilled version of the tackle that football loving kids across the world use on a regular basis

I'm sure most police takedown methods don't including chocking the perp till he passes out...

The amount of air required to speak is not the same as the amount of air required to live.

Also, I don't care about your anecdotes.

Cops can die in a matter of seconds when patrolling the streets of their cities. A movement like that, a jerking motion like the one he did to get his arm out of a police officer's grasp is dangerous for the officer's well being.

Army training. The police is not an armed force. It's law enforcement. They are there to enforce laws, not locked in combat. You got training in that kind of thing. Those people in training were not trying to strangle you. There is no comparison with this case, an officer untrained in a chokehold suddenly wrapping his arm around an astmatic man. The results are quite different. And even if a heart attack was the cause of death, you know what causes your heart to break down? Lack of oxygen.

Ferguson and I Can't Breathe, my opinions

Postby Socialist Union of Citizens » Thu Dec 04, 2014 4:42 pm

Hello,
I will be discussing my opinions, and want to hear yours on two events relating to racial tension affecting this nation.

The first one will be Ferguson. I agree with the police on this case. This "kid" who is 18 and so an adult, robbed a store, and was then killed by a police officer. The account varies on what happened from witness to witness, but all of the witnesses against the police don't have stories that add up, while the witnesses with the police do. Most of the things that Darren Wilson said happened have been proved to happen. The autopsies add up. He said his gun jammed on the first two times he pulled the trigger, and the gun he had when being pulled on (as he said Brown was trying to take his firearm) enough, won't allow its firing pin to fire a shot. And, how did Darren Wilson just get a messed up eye? It was obvious there was a confrontation in the car, which would go with Wilson's account. He has also apologized for the fact that the Brown family has lost their son, even though he rightfully was killed in self-defense. And, what the Hell gives you the right to burn down gas stations because the media, without any proof, claimed Brown was murdered in cold blood and Wilson was racist.

The second one, where Eric Garner was killed by a cop with chokehold on camera, I go with Eric. It is seen on camera that they suddenly attacked him, and illegally, a choke hold was used on him. He yelled out "I can't breathe!" and then died. Though I believe no one should violently protest, protest against this! You can see pure proof of what happened. And to me, this was not an act of racism, it was police brutality that we see against all races.
Pro: Choice, Socialism (Mostly Market/Mixed), Gay Marriage, Legal Cannabis + LSD, Evolution being taught in schools, Giving Immigrants a Chance
Neutral: Gun Control (I see it from a less extreme from both sides. More control, but don't make them illegal.)
Against: Forced Religion/Beliefs, Religion being taught in schools (the history of them is fine, but it should be highly moderated and all religions should have information about the good and bad things they've caused), Creationism/ID being taught in schools, Warmongering/Policing by the US

There's a difference between restraining someone and choking them to death, then neglecting to give CPR.
