Oath Keepers wrote:Oath Keepers is a non-partisan association of current and formerly serving military, police, and first responders who pledge to fulfill the oath all military and police take to “defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” That oath, mandated by Article VI of the Constitution itself, is to the Constitution, not to the politicians, and Oath Keepers declare that they will not obey unconstitutional orders, such as orders to disarm the American people, to conduct warrantless searches, or to detain Americans as “enemy combatants” in violation of their ancient right to jury trial.

Oath Keepers Declaration of Orders We Will Not Obey

1. We will NOT obey orders to disarm the American people.
2. We will NOT obey orders to conduct warrantless searches of the American people
3. We will NOT obey orders to detain American citizens as “unlawful enemy combatants” or to subject them to military tribunal.
4. We will NOT obey orders to impose martial law or a “state of emergency” on a state.
5. We will NOT obey orders to invade and subjugate any state that asserts its sovereignty.
6. We will NOT obey any order to blockade American cities, thus turning them into giant concentration camps.
7. We will NOT obey any order to force American citizens into any form of detention camps under any pretext.
8. We will NOT obey orders to assist or support the use of any foreign troops on U.S. soil against the American people to “keep the peace” or to “maintain control.”
9. We will NOT obey any orders to confiscate the property of the American people, including food and other essential supplies.
10.We will NOT obey any orders which infringe on the right of the people to free speech, to peaceably assemble, and to petition their government for a redress of grievances.

No 8. So Americans don't like the idea of foreign troops on American soil. Good they don't do that to other countries. :eyebrow:

The police have done a relatively decent job of handling things. I don't know shit about the Oath Keepers. Something I'm working to rectify, but until I have I'm under no obligation to think that this is a good thing.

Actually, ex-military vigilantes patrolling the streets was a major feature of historical fascism. That's precisely what Hitler's SA ("stormtroopers" or "brownshirts") were.

And they always claim it's about law and order, respecting the constitution, yadda yadda.

Many of these Oath Keepers are former or current Military, Police, or at least normal citizens who are trained to use firearms, and have the sole intent of keeping communities safe from violence and preserving the Constitution. They are not seeking to destroy anything or to cause any harm, as they don't have the track record for that, but really here to keep communities safe.

Which is exactly why they should not be trusted.

Military men and police officers are always the most authoritarian people in any society.

Some are quite authoritarian, others aren't. Politicians are usually those who exploit the thoughts and feelings of military and police and instill authoritarianism, but in this specific instance, the Oath Keepers oppose many authoritarian things, such as warrantless searches and martial law, and in this case, they are just trying to defend the property of American Citizens who are being attacked by loot mobs. They have no intention of censoring those who are peacefully protesting or the media.

Good. It's about time those thugs are stopped. They're worse than Brown himself, targeting innocent peoples homes and businesses and ruining peoples lives. These criminals need to be stopped as soon as possible, to prevent more property damage.

They seem like conspiracy-theory nutjobs. Points 6-9 on that list are directly connected to right-wing conspiracy theories that imagine society is about to collapse and the US government is about to turn into a cartoonish dictatorship that blockades cities, forces people into camps, steals the canned food stash of law-abiding Preppers, and invites the evil antichrist-ruled United Nations to send troops to enforce the New World Order on US soil.

Well...I didn't mean to imply I agreed with everything on that list. Just points 2 and 10. The rest I kind of dismissed as nutjob rambling that wasn't worth looking at, and implied their own, likely libertarian/anarchist/what-have-you ideology.
Also, I imagine that the government, in their world, steals your food after blowing up your house with a missile? :p

Yes how dare they try to stop people from damaging their property and ruining businesses. What a horrible crime it is to defend your town from a violent riot.

Then they are trying to protect other people's property. Seems like a similar manner of thinking.

Oh yeah, because the National Guard was handling the situation so well...

Normally I am against citizens taking the law into their own hands, but if the authorities are too incompetent to do their jobs properly, then maybe the people are better off policing themselves.

I'm not saying vigilantes are good but how is this "fascist"? It's ridiculous to think that these people are dangerous but the rioters are justifiable.
