1. They didn't vote because they knew they couldn't do anything to help the Dems
2. They didn't vote because they knew the reps. Didn't need help to destroy the Democrats considering they are extremely unpopular.

Then, let the republicans die and have another party replace them.

Because the GOP is a quasi fascistic reactionary hellhole of a party that belongs in the 18th century, it would be considered a far-right extremist party in almost any country in Europe, bar Hungary.

North-Eastern Republicans are actually quite nice people - I've met some.

The problem is the racist, homophobic, misogynic group of pretend-Christians that populate the party in the rest of the USA. - Them, and the Tea Party's efforts to silence the nice North-Eastern Republicans.

The Republicans have collectively embraced the conservative wing of their party. This has hurt them in an unprecedented way. Part of the reason why Republicans were proffered in the past was their image as common sense problem solvers. Since 1994, however, the social conservatives have hijacked the party.

No, the Republicans have more in common with the far right extremists in all of those countries. The party they have most in common with in Germany even uses the same name.

Poland maybe. But in Germany and France they'd definitely be considered far-right, I mean the French NF is considered far-right and large sectors of the GOP are to the right of the NF, and in Germany far-right extremism is basically illegal.

Greece is just fucked at the moment, but the political spectrum isn't that far skewed to the right.

Your facile analysis is ludicrous. Low turnout has always been due to voter apathy and dissatisfaction. Voters clearly were not satisfied with either party. As lower voter turnout favours the Republicans, they won more votes in key races.

The government is split. Neither party is more powerful than the other and to suggest either will disband ignores reality.

Yeah, I mean how are the Democrats extreme? Are they RADICAL Centrists? Or are they EXTREMELY moderately Liberal and compromising? Or are they ULTRA moderate and dull?

The GOP deliberately turned itself into a platform for casino capitalists, Young-Earth evangelicals and paleo-conservative conspiracy theories. They've got only themselves to blame for the bad rep this gives them.

Most of those, if not all of those parties, are actually to the Left of the GOP. All of them economically, and most of them Socially.

You see, most far-right parties in Europe are socially far-right and economically very centrist, the GOP is fairly unique in that they're far-right socially AND economically, they're more ideologically close to outright Fascism and Corporatism, than modern European ultra-nationalism.

Don't lie.

Finns Party: "The party combines left-wing economic policies with conservative social values, socio-cultural authoritarianism, and ethnic nationalism. Several researchers have described the party as fiscally centre-left, socially conservative, a "centre-based populist party" or the "most left-wing of the non-socialist parties", whereas other scholars have described them as radically right-wing populist."

Freedom Party of Austria: "The Freedom Party of Austria (German: Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs, FPÖ) is a right-wing populist and far right political party in Austria."

Freedom Party of the Netherlands I'll concede, but it's probably not the one you meant to begin with.

Alternative for Germany: I don't even need to look them up to tell you that significant parts of their leadership and voter base are associated with the far right and even neonazis. [/German privilege]

Sweden Democrats: "The Sweden Democrats or Swedish Democrats (Swedish: Sverigedemokraterna, SD) are a far-right, right-wing populist, and anti-immigration political party in Sweden that was founded in 1988."

Democrats in Norway: "The Democrats in Norway (Norwegian: Demokratene i Norge, DIN), formerly and commonly known as the Democrats, is a radical right-wing populist political party in Norway without parliamentary representation."

UKIP: "The UK Independence Party (UKIP, sometimes styled and colloquially known as Ukip /ˈjuːkɪp/) is a Eurosceptic right-wing populist political party in the United Kingdom, founded in 1993 by members of the Anti-Federalist League. The party describes itself in its constitution as a "democratic, libertarian party"."

Danish People's Party: "The Danish People's Party (DPP) (Danish: Dansk Folkeparti, DF) is a political party in Denmark which is described as right-wing populist by academics to "far-right" by the international media."

QED.
