Postby Timsvill » Sun Nov 30, 2014 8:17 pm

Tell me in a civilized way. I don't want too see this "BECAUSE YOU REPUBLICANS ARE STUPID, DUMB ASS PEOPLE WHO HATE THE NATURE!". Nothing like that. So in a civilized way, democrats of nation states! I don't hate all members of the GOP. I don't like the GOP in the slightest, and would never consider voting for them, but I don't harbor a hatred for every single person affiliated with the party, since that's narrow minded and stupid.

But, I strongly dislike the GOP because I find that their extreme social conservatism and fiscally irresponsible and unfeasible policies are very negative and incompatible with my largely centre left and liberal views.

Well, believing that I'm a subhuman and that children should be taught that what I am is an unnatural and sinful lifestyle choice is certainly a good reason for me not to be too well-disposed to them.

The GOP has been given over to the religious right base that was added to the party by Reagan, and still bears a number of racist supporters from Nixon's little switch. The establishment hasn't been much better since Gingrich poisoned the waters in the 90s, and now they're just too cowardly to stand up against the overwhelming tide of radicalism they've been swept into.

I ask this because it seems an adult with a locked political identity like "republican" would know exactly why a predominantly liberal forum on the internet would meet them with a bit of hostility.
In general the contemporary Republican party is it seems full of dumbasses for lack of a better word.

Seriously Palin "Send them back over the ocean to Mexico", "I can see russia from my front porch", an unfathomable lack of real economic education, then they get stuck with the Tea Party under their tent-- which is like a Muslim standing next to Taliban members and asking "Why do you guys hate Muslims I dont get it?".

The golden boys of the Republican party seem to have such a hate for middle class labor workers to be called Class Warriors.

In all honesty the contemporary Republican Party is the Party of Old Rich White Men, this wasnt always the case.
I also assure I have equal contempt for the Democrats but they werent the question.

I don't hate republicans, I simply have a lack of agreement with tea partiests and libertarians. There's a difference :P

Moderate New England type republicans know what they're talking about.
- Moderate Right Winger
- New Englander Liberal
-Profoundly Patriotic
-Objective and Pragmatic

I align myself with the democratic party, but I respect various moderate conservatives such as John Huntsman, John McCain, etc.

Sadly, the GOP leadership the past 20-30 years (and especially in the past 10) has done very little to endear sizable segments of the population to their cause. The ignorance, idiocy, shameless bigotry, and religious zeal of the leadership and the noisy extreme fringe has cast a long shadow over the majority of sane or more moderate Republicans.

When someone says, especially in the heavily left-leaning community here that they are a Republican, the observer likely links that label with the antics of the party leadership or the Tea Party radicals. Of course, the media doesn't generally talk much about the majority of moderates for instance, or those who may be fiscally conservative but socially liberal and so on. The media cherry-picks the loudest and most obnoxious members of the party, and that image has definitely become pretty heavily entrenched in the social awareness of what a Republican is.

Probably doesn't help that from the outside view, it seems as though the party leadership is catering to that radical fringe. I can only imagine how much that has to be alienating the moderates in the party, the folks who are for small government and fiscal responsibility, but don't agree with the religious angle and so on regarding certain social issues.

Dont count my answer, I am not a Democrat either. I would frankly never self Identify being a member of either party. The image both put forth as what they are is beneath me to the point I find both highly contemptible.
Reploid expressed it accurately with the fringe being the pervasive image put forth, but this is allowed to happen by both parties.
Both parties who ultimately serve Old Rich White Men, they golf together, drink together, operate together then get in the media and pretend to hate each other.
Leaving regular Americans in a stupefied state of political polarization so potent as to be intoxicating.

No, dont count my response Democrat.

Because: most that are in Government are incompetent at their jobs(Democrats are guilty of this too, but Republicans have more fault), the existence of the GOP and Conservatism really doesn't help with public image, and the fact that a lot Republican ideologies don't really work well in todays society.(There are some good Republicans in government, but they are way too few)

I'm always fascinated by this sort of comment. The last part is correct: "presided". The president doesn't control the budget or domestic policy. (He does control foreign policy, as noted.) He's got veto power, and a huge pulpit to speak from, but that's about it. The Congress controls the budget and passes the laws. Obviously, the president has a lot of influence, but I'm always amazed by the people who seem to think he wields absolute power.

As a matter of fact, control of the Federal government was divided between the major parties during Reagan's presidency, as it has been most of the time since the late 1960s. So, while you're correct that Reagan advocated tax-cutting while building up the military, the Democrats get the assist for running up the deficit, as they controlled the House, and eventually the entire congress during his presidency.

Well, they hate me so I hate them. Simple as that really.

To go more in-depth, the Republicans are homophobic, science denying, selfish, short-sighted and completely corrupted by greed. Before someone pulls out the 'Democrats are just as bad!' card, the Democrats did not try to put corporations in charge of the EPA. (Though the Democrats are notable nuclear/GMO phobics, which also sucks.)

Or just read this website.

NIxon is my favorite republican President. Not the most brilliant economics man, but excellent at foreign policy, supreme on the environment(created the EPA), even in the face of his own personal racist thought he still supported civil rights movement--though never gets credit for it.

Really his most damning feature is he was bad at being a corrupt politician.

Also unlike the clusterfuck that is the AHCA, he supported the idea of single payer universal healthcare for America... seriously republicans what happened to guys like this?

This is the polarization I speak of-- see its general and worded to include all republicans. It presumes a homogenuous state of mind among republicans. Yet he likely believes his own side of the political coin hold great diversity of thought.

The rampant support or admiration often expressed by the (R)s for terrorists like the Bundy Militia or those who bomb abortion clinics does very little to endear themselves to me. The absolute worship of tax cuts as the solution for all societies economic issues is at best a ludicrous delusion and far more likely a corrupt attempt to put more money into the pockets of those who contribute to their financial campaigns. Their homophobic policies make me ill. The push to eliminate the separation of church and state is an affront to me as an atheist. The obsession with voter ID laws that are often overly onerous to end the "rampant voter fraud" that doesn't actually exist (even in Chicago) smacks of voter suppression. Rampant gerrymandering, "I've got mine, fuck you" mentality, hostility to rational gun control laws and just about every plank in their platform. The leadership and candidates constantly lie and make up facts, they'll stand against something that was their own idea originally if the (D)s start supporting it and finally the fact that after Obama's election in '08, they immediately began doing everything in their power to undermine and sabotage the federal government and the Obama administration without regard to the harm it was doing to the country betrays the fact that for all their talk of patriotism almost every single one of them are in fact nothing but petty narcissists obsessed with their own power.
