I have to question your telepathic abilities to know whether or not it was a real apology. And my condolences to Dave for wimping out.

Wait, you somehow believed Dave wasn't a wimp before?

Well, no one ever accused him of being a manly man, unlike some Very Serious folk I could name.

Yeah, like that was a real apology. This time Dave said that the attempt at a joke was totally out of line. He even apologized to Bristol Palin.

I figured that Dave likely was pressed to make this second clarification/outright apology, whereas I think his first one sufficed enough, and Palin, knowing full well Dave meant Bristol, jumped all over it and laid out the guilt and over-the-top outrage; and now this: (from bbcnews.com):

Mrs Palin has accepted Letterman's apology, saying she hopes it will help change attitudes about men who joke about the sexual exploitation of young girls.

She just doesn't fucking get it. The joke was NEVER, EVER about "sexual exploitation of young girls," but she changed it to suit her own political ends: that's what 95% of this turned out to be. Now some group is going to rally outside the Theater to try and get him fired? Pathetic. Drop it, please.

I predict you'll hear about this during the 2012 election campaign. The incident is just too good to drop, an East Coast liberal celebrity (I know he's from Indiana but he's been drinking the water in New York for too long now) making an off-color joke about the purity of Sarah Palin's daughter. The horse ain't dead until we say it is.

I doubt it. I'm putting money on her being pregnant by 2012.

The daughter will be 18 years old by that time. I see no issue with her getting pregnant then.

No, I'm just seriously not caring.

Palin is acting all retarded and whiny (sadly, I don't think that the thing that she claims Letterman said is really all that bad), and the liberals are being retarded and whiny about Palin getting retarded and whiny, and of course there's Letterman being a flattire artist and a wimp.

My final word on the topic, Letterman told a joke, and Palin got all pissed off over nothing and hates letterman now for telling jokes. She is famous so people make jokes about famous people. Deal with it. Famous people don't need to make an ass of themselves because he tells a joke. And people want him fired? BS.

Letterman is a goof and meant NOTHING by his joke, because it was just that, a joke. Palin trying to be a '"good old boy" Conservative is demonizing Letterman in her own over-the-top way; she should drop this.

Of course if the joke was about Obama's kids you would be outraged and Al Sharpton would be picketing the studio right now.

But because it's Palin she's open game. Wasn't Don Imus fired for some crude jokes not to long ago? So why shouldn't Letterman be fired for making a lude remark about a 14 year old girl, because Palin is a Conservative White Woman?

Palin has every right to defend her children from a low and tasteless joke like this. Make all the jokes you want about politicians fine, but seriously leave the children out of it.

Great, more captains of moral superiority that don't know the difference between a joke and an insult, or even what constitutes a joke.

Blah blah blah.

Palin made a point of preaching morality and absitence. So when her slut teenage daughter got slathered in baby batter and got knocked up, it was newsworthy. Hypocrites, particularly those in politics, need to be ridiculed.

Now, if Obama goes on about how the seal hunt is terrible, and then outfits his children in seal fur, THAT would also be fair game.

What all of you who keep crying about 'what if it were Obama!!!!' are missing is that context.

Then he didn't do his goddamn fucking homework, because the 18 year old wasn't at the fucking baseball game!

Now, Letterman's made a much better apology and it's been accepted.

This topic is no longer relevant.

You're right, he didn't do his homework. You clearly admit he intended to target the 18 year old, not the 14 year old.

Glad you've clarified.

And his apology doesn't make the issue no longer relevant, and more than your bellicose pronouncement.

I admit no such thing, because the focus of his attack was Sarah Palin, through her daughter. He wasn't attacking Bristol Palin, or making a joke about her. Letterman was blinded by his own bigotry and he went fucking-ape-shit stupid.

The useful idiots on the political left just nod and wink at the hapless little clown. I don't know why anyone would feel entertained with such a moronic and stupid comedian.

And you can see how useless the feminist groups are. Here are two young women, or one if you're going to hide behind the popular claim of who was the intended target, daughters of a successful female politician, a state governor. They are mocked in a sexually charged fashion. (The silence is only broken by the sound of crickets).

Let me re-phrase. This topic ought to be done with, unless blind hatred keeps it going with the defense of Letterman

Actually, he went for the Trifecta, attacking Bristol Palin, Sarah Palin AND Alex Rodriguez(who was also in the press recently due to marital infidelity). 3 recent news targets with one joke. Had it scored a direct hit instead of spinning off into foul territory, it would have been a beautiful shot.

Funny...yours are the only hateful posts I've seen in this thread so far.

You have some spittle on your shirt.

So let me get this clear...now you're claiming he intended to target the younger daughter...after you just said he 'hadn't done his homework', indicating that he had made a mistake, rather than had orchestrated it deliberately?

Hmmm, do you want to go ahead and pick one or the other? It can't be both.

Indeed. In fact, on my local 70s oldies radio station this morning, a listener called in to lament that the only person who might have been offended by that joke who hasn't been apologized to yet is A-Rod.

The DJ pointed out that A-Rod has been silent on the issue and has not asked for an apology.

The listener suggested this might be because he does not want to be associated with Palin, but for all we know he might be lying in the fetal position somewhere, weeping uncontrollably over the suggestion that he would bang a Palin of any age.

But as I am in Boston, and A-Rod is a Yankee, it was agreed that nobody on the radio would have a problem with Rodriquez's day being ruined in such a manner.
