I understand people are afraid of a religion that they have no clue about and learn about in youtube videos

The violent quran verses are always, I repeat ALWAYS, taken out of context.

Islam is in no way or shape a pacifist religion, and we aren't trying to convince you otherwise. The only time, I repeat the only fricking time a muslim can hurt another person is it's in self defence. Self defence is a board term, but it usually means to protect your self from agressors that are trying to hurt you because you are of another religion or because they are criminals. Now, when you read a quran verse that says ''kill the nonbelievers'' that I see a lot around, it's taken so much out of context. It's like taking out one sentence out of a harry potter book and claim that Harry Potter books is about witchcraft ( Which it sort of is if you look at it that way, but you see my point)

It's the same thing with the Quran. The kill non believers verse is a story telling about what god said to Muhammads army when they were facing the Meccan army that were harassing, killing and chasing muslims out of their homes (Or any other war that Muhammad had to fight). When muslims are hunted down and killed, muslims go into Jihad, which means to struggle. Everyone thinks Jihad means to war, but that isn't necessary the case most of the times. I for example are doing Jihad right now, im resisting people that spread lies about the Quran. Jihad can only be called in self defence for muslims.

I know no one will read this and just go on and say muslims are evil, which is ok I guess I don't care.

It could be because of all the fighting going on in Iraq, Syria, and other counties in that area. There is just allot of tension so people over react and exaggerate and start to just put the blame on one certain thing, in this case they blame Islam. Or it could just be because some people are stupid and don't understand that you shouldn't blame Islam for something a few crazy people have done or are still doing. Its just like saying a Christian went out and shot a bunch of people and blaming Christianity and all Christians. It makes no sense right?

It could be because of it frequently getting hijacked by extremists in the middle east.

How exactly is the Crusades the Muslim World's fault?

The Rashidun and Umayyad Caliphates conquered Egypt, Syria, Palestine and Africa from the Roman (Byzantine) Empire. And then the Muslim Seljuk Turks invaded Anatolia (Modern day Turkey), the heart of the Byzantine Empire, kicking out most of the native Greeks and assimilating the rest. The Byzantine Emperor who took over after the loss of Anatolia, Alexios I Komnenos, requested mercenaries from the west to help him drive the Turks out, and the Pope responded with the First Crusade.

Islam is not a religion of terrorism and war, and neither is Christianity. It's just a stupid lie people believe these days. Islam has nothing to do with terrorism and war, and those who connect Islam with Al Qaeda and terrorism are simply blind fools. It's Al Qaeda people hate, not Islam. But because of the way the media portrays them people have begun to connect the two and confuse them with each other. What does Islam have to with terrorism? Just because there are a lot of wars in the Middle East and terrorist groups that are Muslim doesn't mean Muslims are bad.

Why do people think of Islam when they think of 9/11 or Al Qaeda? The incident was caused by Al Qaeda, not the religion. Imagine for a second a terrorist group that was not Muslim. A terrorist organisation that was Christian or some other religion. Would Christians be called bad and terrorists if that happened? Would they even mention that the members are Christian? The answer is no. Then why is Islam bad? To me, they are just ordinary people, and have nothing to do with terrorism. People should stop believing this kind of nonsense.

And I'm an atheist too by the way.

It's not just fucking al-Qaeda and 9/11. The Islamic State, Boko Haram, Hamas, the Taleban and other islamic regimes in the Middle East are very valid reasons to hate Islam.

Why do so many people hate Islam?

Araksasya wrote:Just because of 9/11, c'mon 13 years ago, a lunatic fringe group did a horrible thing, but now peoplehave so much hate. We don't hate Germans because of Hitler and Nazis but yet we hate Muslims because of al-Qaeda and Bin Laden?

'Why do so many people hate Islam?' is an excellent question. The follow-up statements though confuse a part for the whole. The preponderance of Islam, historically, has been warring against non-Muslims at least since the conquest of Mecca (7th Century CE). The 9/11 attacks are just another example of a part of Islam carrying out what is well established historical precedence of its greater whole.

To paraphrase Mark Twain -- It ain't those parts of Islam that I can't understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand.

Hating a thing (Islam) is not the same as hating those infected by the thing (Muslims); neither is hate mutually exclusive to love—one can both love and hate aspects of the same person or thing (I love the hospitality displayed in Islamic culture to individual strangers, but hate how women are treated as inferiors to men and that is one of many key factors in my hatred of Islam). I have no reason to hate any specific individual. If that person shows direct intent to do harm and shows himself to be a clear and present danger I will defend myself with lethal force if need be, not out of hatred but because that person is so screwed up in his thinking that he is compelled to engage in criminal activity against my person.

I do have reason to hate thought, word, and deed of those who through training (religious or otherwise) wish to cause me, my family, and those of any peaceable community harm (whether by instigation of their beliefs or the lack thereof). Ideologies that cannot leave well enough alone have no place in a free and democratic society. Religions whose basic premises are to subjugate others out of a fundamental and essential tenet (the ignoring or denial of which abrogates that selfsame religion) are harmful to a free and democratic society and I believe in this case is a clear and present danger.

This response is turning into an essay. To keep it simple the sunna/hadith, fiqh and sharia as currently established by Islam (except those who are or seek to be nominally culturally muslim (little m) have little motivation to change its fundamental tenants in such a way that what we in the West perceive to be “radical” Islam could be considered anything other than faithful adherence to the same. As long this is so, I have no reason like it (en toto) when it leaves me be, and every reason to hate it when it deprives anyone of their life, liberty, and well being—as so it routinely does where it reigns.

To many people take Fox News seriously.

Now on to more serious business, I wonder how many people have actually met a Muslim, I have met quite a few in my former work place and would talk a length with them honestly there all very polite and well mannered not bringing this whole hate thing to the table ever nor shunning me because of my religious beliefs. The thing is the worst of a community, people, or religion is usually the face of it cause it's the loudest giving them a bad reputation, seriously go out of country and see what other nations think America is like. Thus people project on a others what they know of them and the loudest being hateful bigots is how a lot of people will see Islam when in reality it full of people who just want to live day to day without complication just normal people like anywhere else. Basically it comes down to laziness and ignorance of not wanting to learn about another culture and it's people which in turn usually leads to racism which is just sad.

I also believe the fact that radical Islam is famous for killing people who refuse to convert these days might also be inflammatory. It's the same reason people hate racists.

Well, it's odd to ignore the rest of the 21st century, the IS and all, and just stop at 9/11, but I guess.

Islamophobia is the generalization of the mistrust of Islam, due to the things that are occurring in the world today in its name, to include all Muslims.

It is wrong. However, I myself am mistrustful of Islam, as I am of all other religions, but notably Islam as it has not(yet?) gone through its Reformation and reactions to that. It's still stuck in a time-period that I am not a fan of.

However, there are liberal Muslims, who practice their religion, but adopt and accept Western values and morals, and who should all be welcomed in our nations with open arms. Assuming they're skilled workers, or the country needs unskilled labour.

As for the more conservative, or hard-line, elements, then it is best they immigrate somewhere more befitting their worldviews. They have, like, 22 countries to choose from. Or the Anglo-Saxon countries, who are all about multiculturalism.

There is a big differnce. Those who kill each other in the name of Christ do so in disobedience to Christ and against Christ's example. Those who kill in the name of Islam do so in obedience to the Quran and in the example of Muhammed.

No. Then why should Muslims be discriminated against just because some other Muslims go around killing people for no reason. Not every Muslim is like that, you know? It's actually quite a small percent of the Muslim population if you look at it from a larger perspective.

How can you say that?!! That is complete and utter nonsense. I've known lots of people who are Muslim in my life, and I even had a best friend who was Muslim. They are not at all like the way you think of them. Muslims are still normal people just like everyone else, it's just that a few crazy Muslims are terrorists and because of that people think that all Muslims are like that.

I never said anything. Calm down.

I meant that towards Visilgen. Sorry for the confusion, if there was any.

There is a big differnce. Those who kill each other in the name of Christ do so in disobedience to Christ and against Christ's example. Those who kill in the name of Islam do so in obedience to the Quran and in the example of Muhammed.

Incorrect. Luke 12:51.

No I hate Islam when it says "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelief. Therefore strike of their heads and strike off every fingertip of them." Just making it out of the norm doesn't make me hate it, I'm atheist, im out of the "norm". I dislike it because of its extreme levels of barbaric violence.
