And there is also reason to believe that ancient Egypt traded with South American civilizations, since they found traces of tobacco in Egyptian mummies.

:palm: That tobacco was a contaminant, not a substance present in the mummy prior to excavation.

Dammit, another illusion shattered!

Marihuana could be obtained easily from much shorter distances, so that would be decidedly less spectacular.

And keep in mind that most Egyptians considered neighboring Libya to be an exotic and foreign place. That's not even outside of the Mediterranean.

But Libya was part of the Egyptian empire more than once!

Technically the Native Americans discovered the Americas first, and they were technically Asian (at first)

"Muslim sailors arrived in America from 1178. Columbus mentioned the existence of a mosque on a hill on the Cuban coast," Erdogan said.

I'm going to be a stick-in-the-mud and/or nag and suggest that al-Jazeera has forgotten how to into math, since 1178 is more than three centuries prior to 1492, not "nearly".

Context considered I think he's trying to cozy up to Ibero-America. He's probably banking on one of them accepting him as a refugee once he gets Gaddafied.

Just a small portion of it, Cyrenaica. Also, back then, people thought that Libya was much larger than the current country that bears the same name. By the time Egyptians had a decent understanding of their surrounding world, they were already a dying civilization.

The Greeks discovered Turkey before the Turks. The Turks are from central asia and migrated to Turkey. Half of Turkey sit on former Greek land.

I went to Turkey years ago and I discovered Turkey!

I read a book on the history of cod. I don't know much about the origin of tobacco.

Not many people can argue with him since he censors information he doesn't like (http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/turkey-governm ... ns-1474621) and since he banned twitter and facebook in the past to silence opposition and public discussion, so he can pretty much say what he wants since he'll sometimes block opposing viewpoints.
