The Muslims were pretty good navigators, sailing across the Indian Ocean and spreading Islam to Southeast Asia, however, I really doubt they made it to the Americas. Ships certainly weren't up to snuff for crossing the Atlantic Ocean at this time, certainly not when Erdogan suggests (this would be in the middle of the crusades, when Muslims had much greater concerns than what lied beyond that vast sea to their West).

The only people who had a half-decent chance of discovering America before Columbus were:

-Asian tribesmen, who crossed the Bering straight and settled in the Americas roughly 10,000 years before Columbus
