Polyamory Thread: I Love You All!

Postby Threlizdun » Wed Nov 12, 2014 12:41 am

Hello everyone. We have dating threads, ideal partner threads, and the like, but most of the threads tend to have monogamous relationships in mind. I've recently begun a wonderful relationship with a beautiful, kind, and highly intelligent woman that I share many interests with. If I stopped there, many would congratulate me. However, my girlfriend is married to two people (legally to one and symbolically to another) and dating another person along with me. Yes, her spouses and boyfriend all know about each other and me, and all of us are happy with the state of the relationship. This seems to baffle a lot of people, my parents included. Most of us are told the same story throughout our lives of two people falling in love and committing exclusively to one another, refusing romantic or sexual involvement with anyone else. Some people however don't care for this notion of romance, and believe that love can be shared between people. These people are polyamorous.

What is polyamory? If you are unfamiliar with it, it's a romantic relationship involving more than two people where all partners are consenting. It is not cheating as all partners have given permission for their partner or partners to date others. It is not swinging of an open relationship, which just involves sex with people other than your partner rather than having multiple romantic partners.

I've occassionally seen the topic arrise on this site, but have never actually seen a thread devoted to it. So what is your opinion on the subject, Nationstates? Do you think you would be comfortable with a polyamorous relationship? Do you accept them even if you personally are more comfortable with monogamy? Do you view them as wrong, and if so, why? Have you ever been in a poly relationship? If you are polyamorous, are you open about it to others?

Okay. Are you going to provide any arguments for why you believe multiple people involved in a consenting relationship are wrong or should I just ignore you?

You know such a thing would just break the very moral fabric of society, you know society asks to adhere to very basic and very minimum things like the roles each gender has to play and such an arrangement would just ruin society

I could very well engage in it, being idemromantic (I'm in the aromantic spectrum, kinda like a grey asexuality but about my capability of falling in love instead).

I most likely don't feel romantic jealousy and other characteristics typical of people who experience fully different romantic and platonic emotions. ^^

No, I don't know how multiple people loving each other would break society. Also, it refusing to adhere to gender roles would break a society, then it's not a society worth preserving.

Polygamy is institutional.

Most of consensual non-monogamy is about the same of having friends, just with more cuddle-ish elements to it.

They keep social order, and think of it this way polyamory would just induce slutty behavior in men and women.

I, for one, actually take part in a polygamous relationship as well. My partner dates two others, my girlfriends dates someone else, and my other partner and I are happy as well. I am not particular to any gender myself, but more to multiples of people at a time. I'm glad there is a thread devoted to this at to discuss the topic.

I'm disappointed. Sounds like fun though. Not having to worry about the whole "cheating" aspect of a relationship when you can go around having relationships with others.

While I'm more than capable of having feelings for a number of women, I'm usually not comfortable when they do the same. If you know what I mean.

I know that I could never love more than one person/ be in more than one romantic relationship at a time and I wouldn't be comfortable dating someone who was also involved with someone else. But if all parties consent then good luck with it, its just not for me.

I don't like thinking of what might arise as we mix polygamy and patriarchal societies, Liz.

But otherwise, sure.

I doubt these are Narnia's reasons, though.

Damned monogamists. Ruining relationships for the rest of us*.

Such a thing would be a breeding ground promiscuity, I mean imagine what would happen we would be creating like a generation of sluts like what happened in the 1960's, if anything we need enforce that such kind of relationships are not socially acceptable
