Britain sells arms, its always sold arms, frequently to people it ends up fighting. If our standard is that we can't sell arms that might end up being used against us. Then we can't sell them period. To argue that Argentina is currently a special case is nonsense in light of who we have previously sold: Argentina, Iraq, Egypt, Russia.

And how many of those three currently pose an active and vocal threat to our territory?

including Argentina?

none.

So all this screaming to be given the islands isn't a vocal threat. Right.

What does a Game of Thrones clip have to do with this?

Or are you suggesting we should just ignore the Argentine government because they're being the political equivalent of a petulant toddler screaming for attention?

No apparently ignoring them isn't appropriate. We should treat them completely as normal it seems.

Because denial of self-determination is totally within international law.

Of course the British should veto the deal, it's not paranoia if someone is openly out to get you, as Kirchner isn't exactly being quite on the issue. The Falkland islands are pretty much on their way to a self determined nation anyway. they only require Britain for protection, which as Argentina has showed is a necessity not a want. not to mention that Britain is far more likely to give the colony true independence (when it can stand on its own two feet without threat) than Argentina ever would be willing to do, as they've tried to hard to get the land, only to give it up 30 years later in some independence vote.
I'm glad you clicked, have a good day.

Good. well since you've "revised your appraisal" from threatening to non-threatening, Hey, lets sell them the same weapons we sell everyone else.

I agree, we shouldn't sell weapons that might be used to hurt people.

Specifically: all of them.

No, I'm Ironmaning. Thats when I take your arguement and make it look better than it really was and then agree with it.

Balkens: A) No. B) My ancestors wouldn't have wanted what you want anyway.
Manisdog: Oh, in that case, when I said your ancestors, I actually meant the people that lived at the same time as your ancestors, but who did want what I want.

As always, many lols from Manisdog.

The cost of re-opening production facilities for an extraordinarily small production run would make the F-22 programme (Argentina edition) even more expensive than the original programme. They would probably struggle to afford even one aircraft.
But by all means, lets work something out and let them blow their money on such a small order, at least the US would make a bit of money out of the deal and the Argentines would be able to parade around their fancy new toys.

If Argentina really wanted improved relations and had no desire to ever take over the Falklands, then the logical thing would be for Argentina to formally renounce claim to any UK territory.

Theur unwillingness to do so is their choice, but also leaves them in no position to have any justified complaint about the UK choosing not to sell them something.

The United Kingdom is wrong to stop weapons trade. It's pathetic that they're scared of Argentina protecting its own interests. If the United Kingdom really was tough they would pick on someone their own size. Stopping fair trade, that shows that you're afraid of competition.
