A True Communist Society

Postby Vietdien » Fri Jan 08, 2010 8:21 pm

What is your vision of a true communist society? Is it the classless, stateless, propertyless egalitarian society described by Marx and Engels? Or is it a dystopia of corruption and oppression?

Have you ever sat in on a meeting of a student group of some sort, where a couple of people were keen and had an agenda to push through, while the others were there for less pressing reasons? And then those two proceed to try to convince the others of the best way of going, start making the whole thing personal and in the end the majority of people vote for the better-looking one of them (rather than their proposal)? And meanwhile, the smart kid with the good idea never got a word in?

I imagine true communism kinda like that.
“Every age and generation must be as free to act for itself in all cases as the age and generations which preceded it. The vanity and presumption of governing beyond the grave is the most ridiculous and insolent of all tyrannies. Man has no property in man; neither has any generation a property in the generations which are to follow.”

An anarchist society without government where everyone produces what they can and takes what they need. It has been done on a small scale successfully, but is very hard to do large-scale.

Anything else is a form of socialism or capitalism.

So... western liberal democracy then. I mean, I think you have pretty much described all societies everywhere at all times. Not really communism per se.

Of course, in my version of communism (the only one that works, let's call it Marxist-Lacadaemonism) we will have tiny super intelligent robots to do all the work for us. That way there will be no need for money, or effort, and we can spend all our time drinking, fucking and fighting. This will of course upset today's communists, because it lacks the requisite misery which Kant says we should all have.
The kind of middle-class mentality which actuates both those responsible for strategy and government has little knowledge of the new psychology and organizing ability of the totalitarian States. The forces we are fighting are governed neither by the old strategy nor follow the old tactics.

You'll be first to the re-education camps, comrade.

Or - in other words - there's a difference between what you 'want' and what you 'need'.

Same way I view Plato's idea of a "Republic": A hopeless fantasy.

I still think there are element of communism that can work in our society, I just don't see the system working as whole. It requires the abolition of greed, and I am a very greedy man.

Canada is not socialist. The only partly socialist things about Canada are health care and the shitty, shitty education system.
