It should be legal, which would (or at least could) eliminate the worst aspects of it. For one thing you wouldn't need pimps. Do it like Amsterdam, the women set up shop and keep the money they make. I agree, though most prostitutes don't do 8 clients a day, but it all depends on how the prostitute plans her hours. how much she asks and how much she can do at a day.
Over here (Netherlands) its very wierd for a prostitute to do 8 clients a day. Most would stick under the five and there are even alot of prostitutes that don't even do more then one client a day or a week.

In the Netherlands, it seems likely that would be the case, given the way the profession is set up there. But at the Chicken Ranch, until recently the USA's only legal brothel, 8 a day was standard. Still, working in a legal brothel (maybe even an illegal one, sometimes) beats being a street whore for some pimp; the brothel takes half their earnings but a pimp takes it all, so she can't run off. Plus the beatings, of course.

It is, contrary to arguments I've heard, anti-feminism. It objectifies women as existing only for men's sexual pleasure, not to mention that it makes the poor girls more susceptible than most to STDs such as HIV A, B, and/or C; AIDS, herpes, and so forth. I think that prostitutes engaging in it freely, not under duress by anyone should be allowed to operate, however I feel like the main reasons why people turn to this sort of job, such as low socio-economic class or lack of equality, need to be tackled. Yes, some women (or men) engage in prostitution because they enjoy the job, but many do it as a way to make money in order to pay their rent and buy their food when things get desperate.

But seriously, just because you can say its a voluntary transaction, doesn't mean it socioeconomically is. Not all prostitutes do it for the money, but a fair few resort to it when their governments, families or friends have abandoned them and they see no way out. We should be making stronger social security nets to stop these things happening.

Well I think that prostitution is like any other business, you do it for the money and as long as there are customers it will continue to thrive so there is no reason to call them "filth" or treat prostitutes with less respect than others. The one main problem is that in a lot of places its not voluntary and they are forced into sex work, which I'm strongly against. Also there are health concerns with HIV+ sex workers transmitting the disease, so it needs to be regulated closely.

It doesn't have to be, in Germany it is only around $65 because it is legal and common. The asking price can go down substantially if the supply almost exceeds the demand for it, like anything else.
