Because some of them actually can be rehabilitated and go on to do worthwhile stuff, and because helping them is often cheaper than cleaning up the mess if they commit crimes out of desperation.

That varies. I have met people who were homeless by choice and just taking advantage of people's generosity. They are the minority, but they do exist.

The ones I met just parked their asses on the sidewalk and asked passersby for money. If people walked past without giving them money, they'd start saying nasty things about them, like they thought people owed it to them to give them money. Totally ungrateful. And then they spouted this bullshit about how if you're a good person, "the universe" will provide for you. If someone else gives you money, that's not "the universe" providing for you, and it's not because you're a good person. It's another person doing you a favor because they're a good person. Those guys just really rubbed me the wrong way.

Whats wrong with feeding the homeless?

It encourages those no-good moochers who should just go get a job already to hang around and bring their icky homeless germs into the public space where the hardworking elite have to see them, and heaven forbid, maybe feel uncomfortable seeing those welfare queens actually getting to eat real food!

Really, it sounds to me like the law is an attempt at making the area so inhospitable that the homeless population migrates elsewhere. Instead of, oh, say, taking steps to help get the homeless off the streets? Y'know, housing, job development, that sort of thing?

This reminds me of that South Park episode that made fun of Dawn of the Dead and had this issue as its message.

The Homeless are treated as the undead and people just want them gone, gone to any location.

Instead of actually doing shit.

Such lazy assholes in the world, and they have the gall to call the Homeless lazy.

Sure, maybe some got there themselves, but even then don't they deserve a chance to get back on their feet and get rehabilitation.

Well, how else are we supposed to stop people being raped or killed? Allowing people to interfere only encourages the problem.
