We should already know that a cane is a no-no.

It's possible to hit someone with a cane without inflicting pain, as long as you're not wacking them.

But you're right, someone disciplining a child wth a cane is unlikely to be doing it lightly enough for it to be reasonable.

Hope presents the illusion that some interior value (happiness) can be pursued as an end in itself. It dilutes our dedication to our rational duty - we will not suffer the pains that our duty necessitates because we have hope that we can, instead, pursue our love. We do not fulfill our obligation to our intellectual ambitions because we hope that we can pursue a family with the S/O of our dreams.

Love of our fellow human beings distracts us - it subverts our noblest attributes. We ought only love our duties - love that which is consistent with our unconditional obligations as rational persons. Everything else is a matter of indifference.

If I could have all my ideals in life, I would definitely want that. Life can't be too perfect.

I would not want it because then life would be too boring and people would be out of a job.

The reason why we have a job is because someone else needs us, the reason why we struggle and we feel happy when we accomplish something is because of the fact we busted our ass to do it.

Why would you want an ideal life if it means not challenging yourself and your perceptions of the world?

Mine has, definitely.

5 years ago I could have told you I wanted a deeply religious girl who I would wait for marriage and she'd be hyper-feminine/a gamer and smart and a wonderful person to me. Much like Flood's ideal partner.

Nowadays, I just want someone to appreciate me the way I am and accepts me the way I am, flaws and all. It's why I am with who I am right now.

Yeah, if there was any doubt before, its all erased now. TRollsevelt is fucking with us.

If you can't accomplish corporal discipline with a belt (no, not excessive use, but reasonable and appropriate use), then you're either too fucking strict, or your kid has a psychological issue that needs to be looked into.
