this is your daily reminder that half of the conservatives policies were based on mathematical errors and that the OCED and IMF literally came in and said "what the fuck are you doing? this is really stupid. we usually support this kind of shit but come on. you'll just slow down recovery." (later statistics showed they had indeed slowed down recovery) and any economic recovery is in spite of them not because of them
pro: good
anti: bad

This week, economists have been astonished to find that a famous academic paper often used to make the case for austerity cuts contains major errors.
IMF: Austerity is much worse for the economy than we thought
UK austerity measures likely to hurt society's poorest, OECD warns
Government spending cuts may be going too fast, OECD warns
George Osborne insists he will press ahead with the government's austerity plans despite a warning from the International Monetary Fund that the chancellor should slow the pace of cuts.
Britain has underperformed all the world's leading economies over the past year except tsunami-hit Japan, figures from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) show.

For the avoidance of doubt, I think it is important to point out that every forecast published by the OBR since the June 2010 Budget has incorporated the widely held assumption that tax increases and spending cuts reduce economic growth in the short term.
"We fought for the public good and would have enfranchised the people and secured the welfare of the whole groaning creation, if the nation had not more delighted in servitude than in freedom"

"My actions are as noble as my thoughts, That never relish’d of a base descent.I came unto your court for honour’s cause, And not to be a rebel to her state; And he that otherwise accounts of me, This sword shall prove he’s honour’s enemy."

"Wählte Ungnade, wo Gehorsam nicht Ehre brachte."
DEFCON 0 - not at war
DEFCON 1 - at war "go to red alert!" "are you absolutely sure sir? it does mean changing the lightbulb."

They are still minors. Their parents should be able to make that call.

We sent off for one in the post. The delivery plane had a whoopsie and he bumped his head up due to too little bubble wrap. For some reason he's now calling himself Nigel Farage.

Why on earth should it be the parents' decision? The parents are not going to be able to stop the kids having sex if they really want to have it without committing a crime.

No we have Nigel Farage. Much scarier because he has a valid chance of gaining some power.

Of course they shouldn't, the human species is designed to have sex way before 18, and it's unnatural to try to prevent that to happen just because you feel it's 'immoral' (a VERY subjective thing, btw)

And, anw, kids are human beings and if when they reach 14 they can hold civil resposabilities for their crimes, why they can't have sex?

The IMF came out an apologised earlier this year for getting it wrong. So using sources that are 18 months to 3 years old that later turn out to be wrong is not what I call great research. They get a lot of things wrong but it's not surprising. The IMF is filled with French political rejects so obviously to them the only right way is the French way even when it's wrong.

We shall see what happens with the much more recent OECD predictions in a year or so.
