Should Women Have to Sign Up For Selective Service Too?

Postby Haktiva » Sat Oct 18, 2014 10:14 am

The way I see it, men in the US have to earn their right to vote by signing up to get drafted, while women don't. If women are in favor of equality under the law, then they should have to do the same.

By all accounts nobody should be forced into conscription as far as I'm concerned. But as it stands, women in the US aren't doing what men have to do in order to earn their right to vote. As it stands, men are forced to serve their country while women have the option to.

Then again, women are often considered too precious to put at risk, thanks to our gynocentric instinct. If we aren't gonna let women risk getting themselves blown up, then we may as well ban them from driving as well, like in Saudi Arabia. But at least there they get their own ATMs, which men are forbidden from using. Some patriarchy eh?

No one should.

The right to vote doesn't have to be earned, it is granted without demands.

Other than that, I'm not sure this would be a good idea. If you need that much manpower in your army, you're losing the war either way and depopulate your country for no good reason. Especially since you need women to repopulate it once you're done throwing your people at gunfire and bombs.

So let's stick to a smaller, but more professional army, without any conscription at all.

He's saying they shouldn't have to earn their rights, obviously.

Which I agree with; nobody EARNS rights, you just have them because you exist.

We should just get rid of the Stupid Selective Service anyways. We don't need massive numbers of troops anymore, we need specialists.

I support fully ending the selective service. However, as it stands, if men have to sign up, then women should have to sign up as well. It is unfair and downright sexist to only draft men.

think everyone should have to sign up for a civil service for part of their lives to get to vote but they shouldn't be required to be in a draft, unless you are in a war that threatens your nation, like WW2, and not because of useless wars that don't threaten the nation, like the Vietnam and Korean Wars.
I go by Illumine in non-RP situations--though some of my region mates seem to prefer war mongerer at times. Both Invictus and Illumin are correct for identifying those from Illuminination. Illuminian refers to a person from the whole of Illumine and not just Illuminination.
