If the GOP gains control of the House and Senate, then this country is fucked. I would bet money that they would go bonkers and try to ban things like homosexuality or abortion.

They will try to repeal the ACA, but I don't think that they will have a large enough majority to overturn Obama's veto.

We would really be screwed if they manage to have a majority in both houses and grab the Presidency in 2016.

The status quo will remain. I see the centre-right Democrats losing ground in the Senate and the right-wing Republicans losing ground in the House but both will keep control of their respective assemblies.

Stop being melodramatic.

About the only thing Republican control of the Congress would mean is much more partisan vetting of executive appointments thanks to Reid's taking the nuclear option and making those non-filibusterable.

Sadly, that seems to be the case. Polls since mid September have been consistently trending GOP and that, coupled with Obama unpopularity and the fact that it is a midterm year point to a almost guaranteed GOP senate majority. I can't stand thinking of Mitch McConnell as majority leader . . . Senators should have term limits. But it comforts me knowing that any GOP majority will be undone in the 2016 elections. 2016 will be an excellent year for democrats, trust me.

Seats up now were last elected in 2008 (which we all know was a pretty darn good year for Democrats). This year isn't so friendly so theres bound to be losses. 2016 seats were last elected in 2010, a GOP landslide year. Democrats should be worried about 2018 (seats elected in 2006 and 2012, both good years for democrats).

It's clear Obama wasn't the president people expected. His approval rating at an all time low, abuse of power from both the President and Democrats is the Senate, and the failure of every piece of legislation they had to offer, this is definitely going to be a GOP year.

I hope Republicans take full advantage of this opportunity, because who else is going to prevent America from being bankrupted, or nuked, or turned into a full dictatorship.

Doesn't the GOP know it doesn't stand a chance for as long as it fights gay marriage, immigration reform, and easily-accessible birth control?

I agree. While homosexuality probably won't be banned thanks to our progressive Supreme Court (unless some bozo tries to pass an amendment), abortion rights, immigration, and equal pay will all go up in flames.
