Well, Joe Hockey and the Liberals have well and truly started what we all feared would happen; the war on the poor. They've now made open warfare against the lower income classes. While some might have been able to argue the poor weren't being unfairly targeted before, there's no question that they are now.

As we know, the Liberals have cut back public sector spending quite markedly which makes it harder for those on lower incomes to get by. Most notably university students who have potential to greatly contribute to the country in the future and the pensioners who helped pay for what we have today and grew up in a time where superannuation wasn't something people thought about. This aside, the cuts have affected everybody. But we all know this.

Now, the Liberals are using the savings for tax cuts. If anything, it would be appreciated if the tax cuts were to help the people who suffered most at the result of these cuts. But predictably, the cuts won't benefit the average Australian. Only the wealthy, and I mean very wealthy, will benefit from these tax cuts. The poor are being asked to give the rich more money. Wait no, the money is being stolen from the poor and handed to the rich in a reverse Robin Hood situation.

I'll admit that I've defended the Abbott government in the past, but only because I thought they weren't that bad. But now, I'll well and truly admit that I was wrong all along and this is a toxic and corrupt government in power only to appease the rich.

Australia, friends don't let friends vote Liberal.

I would be dismayed but not all too surprised if Abbot is re-elected.

Hopefully the current opinion polls hold true and Abbott is bounced out next year, taking Joe Hockey with him. Hopefully the Liberals lose so badly, they're forced to clean out the ranks and return to respectable politics.

Well spoken mate. You have strengthened my resolve against the current Liberal government. Good on ya.

We can only hope. Sadly when I vote, i won't be able to make a difference for the time being. I live in Groome, a solidly Liberal seat.

Personally I'm hoping that less people will vote 1 for minor parties because they think its "vote wasting" as this comic explains.

As annoying as Abbot Government is, ultimately I think more variety in Australian politics will help other than a "kick out Liberal, get in X party" fiasco.

Possibly true but Rome wasn't built in a day. The ALP are the only other party with a realistic chance of removing the Liberals at the moment, not to mention one of the only parties with a reasonable and broad-spectrum vision for Australia, therefore voting them in is the immediate priority.

How about Greens?

But I agree, realistically for the next election the ALP are the only viable party. (Secretly hoping for Greens).

I have three major issues with the Greens:

1 - Their anti-nuclear stance
2 - Their anti-GMO stance
3 - The Tasmanian State Greens still have a lot of outdated ideologues in their ranks (the ban all industry except tourism, knock down the hydro-dams type) though they seem to be trying to fix this recently

I like their anti-foreign farm ownership policy and a few other things.

That said, it honestly wouldn't surprise me if one of the big two eventually fell out of favour among voters and where replaced with some other party in the near future.

Depends on what we put in place. A Marxist Leninist revolution wouldn't be bad but we would need China's support to stop USA from "freedoming" the nation. Abbott's policy is unsurprising, it is typical liberal economics. Abbott believes in he can appeal to top 60% it doesn't matter because the poor people will starve to death. :P The Liberal party only does well because of the arrogance of the Australian middle class and the greed of the bourgeoisie.

What is everyone's views on gay marriage? I am pro gay marriage but it won't get passed. Both parties are too conservative.

What do you mean? Labor is pro but just has a conscience vote in place. There is talk of making it mandatory, but the only reason it's not in place is because they would look contradictory going to the Libs saying: Oi, let your MPs have a conscience vote, none of that compulsory crap.

A faction isn't the majority of a party, but yes the fact that they exist a shows there are conservative elements.
