Some of you may be thinking "ooh tony abbott fucked up again" but no. The law passed with bipartisan support, 37-13. The only ones who opposed it were minor parties like the LibDems and the Greens.

Honestly I'm quite pissed off about this. and then I learnt I can't even start my own party because the price has been raised to $3000. The state of affairs here is deteriorating.

I'm surprised somebody actually knows what Nyaa is. Besides that Nyaa and ThePirateBay aren't even real piracy sites. They don't host the files. They just index them.

Oh wow another who has watched that movie. I thought that was an exceptional movie in how they showed the Western Front.

Yeah, I saw it back in the day. I've got to say, I didn't expect that it would be so realistic in the horror and that dude getting stuck underground and then his candle going out.

Indeed.

Nine's Gallipoli was great IMO but, although they mentioned the NZ part of ANZAC a fair bit (when they talked about battle plans and such), there was next to no screen time for the Kiwi's.

Same with the Water Diviner and the original Gallipoli movie.

Poor New Zealand, Oz media companies that make these movies/shows don't consider them to be the target audience probably.

Meh. We watched one series primarily about Gallipoli from the Aussie viewpoint and it featured a surprising amount of Kiwis in it, including the bitter fighting at Chunuk Bair as well as one cursory joke about the Turks asking what the noise was when the Maori battalion was doing it's haka.

Meh, Lambie is actually pretty well liked down here. (And trust me when I say Muslims aren't exactly looked with favour in this state if you know what I mean) I personally have a meh approach since I had a Sunni friend in Auckland but the people I live with are a different story.
As long as they don't fight for ISIS, I guess.

Mostly for environmental stuff. To be fair, I'm not sure where most tasmanians stand on social issues, but environmental protection is something that most of them can agree with. Unless you're employed in the logging industry.

I ran into the Prime Minister today.

And then I had an afternoon chat with a senior figure in the Labor Party.

Life is surreal.

I know that he gets botox. Taller than you'd think, but that's universal too the telly I suppose. Personally I think he looks a bit like a chimp in a suit, conservative males seem to want to project this aura of intimidation and power. He was just getting a suit fitted, not that thrilling tbh.

I should have got an autograph or a selfie but I was too slow to think of it.

But socially speaking we sort of like to stick to ourselves, also I personally haven't seen any Muslim groups down here at all in the nearly 1 year I've moved here, so from that I can deduce they're either really really good at hiding, or aren't here at all. But to be fair I'm yet to visit Hobart, so who knows, maybe there isn't any opportunities for them here in the countryside which maybe why I haven't seen a single one yet.

So what's our thoughts on this Q&A thing still hitting headlines almost a week after the incident?
Personally I think it was totally blown out of proportion and is an excuse for Abbott and friends to launch an ideological crusade against the ABC and her independence. It is an attack on freedom of speech and the independence of the ABC.

My GP is a Muslim from Pakistan.

Apparently though, only 0.2% of Tasmania's population is Muslim, with almost all of them living in Hobart. So it seems they're somewhat of a rarity down here.

My GP for most of my life was a Muslim from India and he's great. My current ones are also all Muslims, but not sure on their backgrounds. They're all really nice, normal people.

Tonight's Q&A was the greatest that I've ever seen. At the start, Tony Jones doesn't walk around the issue we've been waiting to hear from him about, and is straight to the point. Then as it goes on, Lawrence Krauss, the coolest panelist they have regularly, just comes in from outside and stomps on the whole terrorist thing and mentions that we are creating a climate of fear about Terrorism; it's a recurring theme, and that Goebbels said that creating fear is what drives people. The anti-terrorism lady was also great and the Editor-at-large of the Australian wasn't half-bad. Tim Wilson I never have liked and he is unfit to be our human rights commissioner when he is not only consistent in his application of his 'beliefs' and because he was not being apolitical. Plibersek was a bit boring if I'm to be honest, but I guess that's because the rest of the show was so fiery.

Well because you picked incorrectly and that name really wouldn't suit me and I'd rather not have people call me that, I'll reveal it. It is indeed, Luke, and most ironic of all, is that the guy on the voice has EXACTLY the same first and last name as me.
