Basically, yeah. Speak softly and carry a big stick.

Man, if Teddy were running the show he personally would have challenged Kim Il-sung to fisticuffs in 1950, then single-handedly annihilated the North Korean and Chinese armies when he refused and punched KIS to Pluto.

Honestly, it kinda does.

Whatever they feel, they definitely feel that they can't or won't do something about the matter.

Nothing they've done suggests sympathy or an interest in their people...

KJU has been attempting to modernize the country and did liberalize the economy a little bit. Of course those good points are offset by him killing people to cement his power.

Kim Jong-Un disappears, they say his sister may be running the country, or it may be the generals, Pyongyang under lockdown, surprise talks with the South, and now this "reunification by 2015" stuff...

Is it just me, or is this weird, even by North Korean standards?

Yes, but only because this time they've started a panic about the impending nuclear holocaust without actually doing anything particularly threatening.

It's weird to have them quiet, though. Generally they're pretty loud. "GLORIOUS KOREA BEST KOREA WILL DESTROY AMERICAN PIG DOGS AND THE PUPPET GROUP OF TRAITORS IN SPECTACULAR NUCLEAR FIRE CONJURED BY THE WONDROUS DEAR LEADER KIM JONG-UN" and so forth. And we've got very little coming out of North Korea- not even something like "KIM JONG-UN ACCIDENTALLY HURT HIMSELF WHILE SAVING A BABY FROM A MURDEROUS COUNTERREVOLUTIONARY SOUTH KOREAN REGIMENT AND PREVENTING THE LAUNCH OF THE AMERICAN NUCLEAR ARSENAL" or "KIM JONG-UN IS RECOVERING AFTER BEING TRAMPLED BY A MOB OF KOREAN PEOPLE DESPERATE TO BASK IN THE SUPREME GLORY OF OUR HEROIC DEAR LEADER" or "KIM JONG-UN HAS FINISHED A FIGHT AGAINST JAMES BOND, CHUCK NORRIS, AND ZOMBIE JANG SONG-THAEK WHICH HE WON WITH THE HELP OF A UNICORN, THE MEMORY OF KIM IL-SUNG AND KIM JONG-IL, AND JUCHE-SONGUN POLICY" or that kind of thing. They usually do that all the time, and now... nothing. They haven't done or said much of anything, and that's unnerving.

Thank you for reminding me of the bit of Alas, Babylon where some American commanders are discussing the lack of Soviet posturing over a perceived attack.

No, not that, the part where you're right about the lack of blustering. Which is now unnerving me, for reasons anyone familiar with the plot of that book should be able to realize.

Speaking of what the North Korean government says, I visited the KCNA website to see if they had anything. Just the usual shit about "North Korea is beloved, respected, and looked up to by the whole world, and is the strongest and wealthiest nation ever". Nothing whatsoever about any of this craziness.

Wait, what?
Was my reaction when read the title of this topic.

I don't believe that peaceful Intergration will occur until the North overthrows the current monarchy government. You can be certain that a unified Korea will not have a government model of the North, or at least will only have it for a short time before they are repelled by the U.S.

The KCNA is still doing some blustering, but the DPRK generally tries to make sure that it's blustering is high-profile global stuff. And they aren't.

North Korea's websites are generally shit. That's a side effect of being a psychotic autocracy that spends a fair amount of its money on opulent lives for the rulers, and the remainder on building up the military and secret police to stay in power.

This is weird. Usually North Korea is more blatantly blustery than it is. Could be sign of interior trouble, or could be nothing.
