North Korea is just... No.

They have concentration camps, little running water besides int eh capital. Electricity is scarce and common blackouts occur in the capital.
They have a nuclear program and have threatened south Korea/USA several times, and tried acting muscles by firing artillery into the sea. His propaganda makes him seem like a god, and if you speak out you get to a concentration camp. No wonder why he gets 100 percent of a vote and has a parliament that sits to introduce more shittier laws once a year. Totally isn't rigged.

When he came to power if he decided to lift human rights and begin to act kinder I guarantee North Korea would have better relations with China/Less sanctions enabling him to give more food. If he wants to help how about he give out some of his swiss cheese?

Intent to help doesn't change the fact that he's doing terrible things. Pol Pot was certainly trying to help his country in his twisted way, but that doesn't mean that he was a good man who helped Cambodia.

The vlogbrothers do a pretty poor job of explaining North Korea.

The whole "blabla, explained" videos generally go against John Green's principle that "truth resists simplicity." You can't suddenly be an expert on a situation after reading a non-academic book or two or reading a few news articles. Explaining North Korea is just the way it is because "omg north korea crazy!!" is a piss poor explanation of things, and one that North Korea experts (which I do not at all claim to be) don't take at all seriously.

a good way to tell whether you should ignore someones opinion on nk is this test i just made up

- uses the word "crazy" as a reason for everything that ever happens in nk
- uses the word "crazy" in every other sentence
- says nk could invade sk anytime
- assumes nk is chinese puppet
- uses phrases such as "if nk invaded we would totally wipe them off map/turn them into glass/create a crater/other casual statement of genocide
- says things like "OMG NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT NORTH KOREA THEY COULD TOTALLY DO ANYTHING WE WOULDN'T KNOW SO CRAZY SO UNPREDICTABLE"
- says "north korea is going to bomb us the world is gonna end ww3 omg"
