I suddenly have this vision of a plane flying from Yemen straight into it.
Some people, expecially architects, never learn about safety.

What signal does it send to build a construction like that in these times?

"We wank a lot".

Is it economically reasonable?

Skyscrapers are economically idiotic. Expecially in a mostly desertic place, where one has all the land one can need.

Or what do you think about the architecture?

Nothing innovative. The last two innovative skyscrapers have been the Pirelli Tower and the Petronas Towers, I'm afraid.

1) Architects do fuck all when it comes to structural design.

2) Do a Wiki search for "Taipei 101".

I actually think it's a bit stupid to build something like that in this recession. I mean that thing cost $1.5 billion. That sort of money could be used to build a lot of utilities in poorer countries

Well, all the worlds elite will be able to buy the pent houses and still those poor citizens in third world nations miss out on basic school's and school equipment...... what a just world we live in

The question is how much of that money will be wasted to corruption, sent to the wrong areas, and some of it "Lost"?
And $1.5 billion is a drop in the bucket compared to what some people spend on other projects. Dams, irrigation, transportation, power and water/sanitation.
