Yeah, no. Turkey would sooner have a revolution or a military coup than become fascist.

Well, Turkey is only following the path of other European countries, so since France are islamising itself it is natural for Turkey to do it. Muslims rights are a compass of democracy in the EU anyway.

The Turks are aware and proud of their Ottoman/Imperial heritage so it is even more ok.

Erdogan has purged the millitary so coups in Turkey are now far behind it. Usually the millitary would intervene in situations like this when the government is going out from Ataturks road (thank you EU).

Perhaps you missed the other half of the article were it said they also banned make-up, tattoos, piercings, and facial hair.

My school did as well. Tattoos and piercings (except for the ears on females) could not be visible and had to be covered with a bandage.

Those regulations are secular and perfectly fine (Some schools of Islam require facial hair).

While I do agree with the idea of 'freedom of expression' in regards to the headscarf but Turkey you doing it wrong friend. Freedom of expression is to be free to wear whatever the hell I want.

I want to wear a hijab and some makeup? Then I get to wear makeup and a hijab. I don't want to wear a hijab? I won't wear a hijab.

It's my way of expressing who I am. For crying out loud Turkey, get your shit together.

Imperial Japan, your reply will hurt all of the muslims. In fact, I am a muslim. We all dreamed that there would be a fair Islamic nation. So, you sir or madam, need to look back to yourself if you have moral values or not.

Also, for some reason, image searching "Turkish Politician" yields lots of pics of Emma Watson.

You could also drum up a ton of pictures of the Ottoman Sultans.

As for Watson, that's probably because she's spoken out against Turkish politicians before.

On topic, I think this might hurt Turkey's chances of joining the EU even more. Though, you know, once that idiot Erdogan gets kicked out of power, here's to hoping Turkey gets a more secular leader.

Hi thar <3

Well, I get the feeling that they have given up on the EU. The Turkish government headed by cuckoo Erdogan, that is. I'm sure that the vast majority of the Turkish youth would rather have Turkey westernize enough so they can be part of the EU, but retain their heritage.

In Erdogan's case, he is acting a teeny tiny bit reactionary, possibly wanting the good ole days to return.

Well considering Azerbaijan and Albania and even BiH have a large amount of people who don't think religion plays a large part in their lives, whereas in Turkey it is evident that religion plays a large role in their lives well...

And mind you, all these nations have Muslim majorities (except for BiH).

Turkey becoming an EU member is never going to happen, and I think all parties involved know this.
O'er the hills and o'er the main.
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain.
King George commands and we obey.
Over the hills and far away.
