Obviously it doesn't take a couple of weeks. I didn't even imply that. The USA has helped the African Union fight terrorists in Somalia, why can't they help the AU fight Ebola?

Stopped reading here.

Just gave it another go and, yeah, those guys are probably idiots. Not the reason I dismissed the article, but still a good one.

WorldNetDaily (WND) is an American web site that publishes news and associated content from the perspective of U.S. conservatives and the political right.

Started laughing here. The right would find a way to blast Obama if he could walk on water, turn water to wine, and came back to life three days after he died.

Helping the AU fight Ebola is exactly what those soldiers are doing.

The US troops in Ebola-land are a stop-gap measure in an emergency scenario. Do you need to be reminded that the US sent troops for the same in Somalia?

Which was part of a United Nations mission despite the fact that the USA lead it. Also, didn't they fail at their objective(this isn't sarcasm) or am I wrong because the AMISOM mission has allowed Somalia to stabilize.

Well yeah indeed lose of any life is regrettable but lets not get down to the hypocrisy that anybody else cares about some guy that died other than the people that knew him.

Well, it's a shame that he died, since it seems he got Ebola trying to help people. On the bright side, it brings some closure.

I can't believe the UK is sending 750 squaddies over to West Africa.

It's like they've learned nothing from disease proliferation caused by British forces trooping through cholera-hit regions of India in the 19th century.

And Africans can't do that. Oh wait, we are to dumb to do such things right. Have you considered hiring a construction company from Africa to do it or at least have the AU help with building hospitals.

Why would it?

You're not contagious for very long, and the only way it passes is if you mire yourself in someone infected's bodily fluids. It's not like flying AIDS or something.

It didn't. Ebola is literally the forgotten crazy uncle of diseases. He poses no danger. It's nuts, but it's nothing to worry about. Half a million Americans die from the flu every year. Ebola has killed a single guy. *shrugs*

Until the virus evolves to be airborne and the healthcare system of the western world collapses, I won't worry at all about Ebola.

You're wrong if you think western healthcare stops ebola in its tracks. That is just not true. Many of the Europeans who've come back sick have died despite the best efforts of the systems around them, their general previous good health, and attempts by the big drug companies to have a go with just about any antiviral they still make to cure ebola (there are a ton coming through labs at the moment being recertified and I'm sure that's why).

If you catch ebola, you will probably die. No matter how sloppy you think Africans are when it comes to healthcare, the reality is that nobody has a very good answer to the disease.

Dude, you don't seem to understand that if these things were being done already without US help we wouldn't be sending help. However, the situation has begun to spiral out of control and it's become clear the relevant governments are not up to the task alone.

This is all well and good, but you're talking about people who maybe have 5 GCSEs and a whole batch of fresh British summer-into-autumn diseases being told to go help out in West Africa. That seems more like Philip Hammond being hasty to make Britain look important than a well-thought-out response, especially since the numbers being sent pretty much trebled overnight.

Will they track ebola around? Hope not. Hopefully the Liberians just leave them at the airport on quarantine.

Western healthcare does stop Ebola in its tracks. The few affected people may still die but it will not spread very far at all.
