My view is that with these situations, where there's going to be intervention in a family home, it should be done with care in a way that isn't violent. I think that if kids are at risk, there should be intervention by family services/police(although there should be measures before, to see if the situation can be improved without taking the kids), but when kids are being taken away by forceful police in riot gear, that just adds to the trauma that the kids will experience. (and have already experienced)
I'm sure there is a valid reason for there to be intervention to protect the kids, but the police went too far.

Well here is another survey which showed that the majority of Australians were against the proposed changes to the Racial Discrimination Act and believed it should be unlawful to insult others on the basis of race. I'd like to see some evidence which supports what you have been saying.
I don't know man, maybe you just live in a bydlo area. I'm Slavic and live in an area which has one of the highest Muslim populations in the country. We all get along.

Is there ever a time when it's justified? Yes. Was this the time for it? It doesn't sound like it based on the info in the article.

I can say with absolute certainty that enduring racism - against indigenous Australians, against Asians and Middle Easterners and "the other" in general is one of the ongoing blots on the face of our nation. A pimple, if you will, upon the face of an otherwise remarkably fair and humanitarian society.

As case in point: our asylum-seeker policy, which we have been repeatedly cautioned breaks our international obligations but is still supported by 70% of the population. To be perfectly frank, our policy is grotesque - mandatory (sometimes years-long) detention of asylum seekers (including small children, some of whom grew up remembering no home but the IDCs) was the old norm, but now we've stooped even lower: if you come to Australia seeking asylum, you will automatically, permanently be denied any kind of asylum. Instead, you'll be sent to Papua New Guinea and given asylum there - in one of the poorest, most backwards countries in the world. Why? Because, that's why, according to 70% of Australians.

Assuming that any given Australian is racist is stereotyping, yes - but it's unfortunately all too close to the truth.

Somehow, I doubt it's necessary or justified to send in the riot police, even when the kids are being abused (which is by no means certain). A pair of regular blueshirts can accompany the DCP workers in removing the kids in question.

This is what I wanted to say.

The precursor to the removal of the children was the death of a child. The child was later found to have died of SIDS. Had this been a white family, I highly doubt the children would have been removed, let alone in such a violent manner.

This is an example of the latent racism at the heart of Australian society.
