The problem isn't that you said something politically incorrect it's that you said something kind of dumb and when you were censured for it you called it political correctness gone mad then you called the additional censure for your response political correctness gone mad.

Your example is a bad one, a really, really bad one. Rape usually traumatizes the victim and is one of the most hideous violent acts that can be committed towards another human being. Anyway, what irks me about PC is this:

Huckleberry Finn being taken off of bookshelves or edited thus ruining the atmosphere, the feel of the book written by an author of that time in that time in a language and society of that time. I can see why people would be offended by the overuse of the word "nigger" in the book, however, it's also something we should understand that it was written in the time where it's common to use the word the way asking Asian-Americans (or any minority that's not African-American) "Where are you from? Where are you REALLY from? Like, where do your family come from?" is today. Both are equally offensive to the minority group targeted, and both are commonly used in the time period it's used at (the latter being today). In short, it's American culture then to throw the word "nigger" without any social backlash much as it is American culture now to deny me, my parents, and my grandparents' American upbringing because we're not classified as "White" or "Black" without any backlash (and if we do express discontent, we get told "Chill, man, it's just a question").

In short, although I do not like that derogatory word, nor do I want to be asked those annoying questions that makes me want to whip them with an American flag singing the Star Spangled Banner, the problem is that we are blocking out, erasing, editing, a part of our history, however dark and shocking to modern Americans it may be. Other than erasing a part of our history that we don't like (like in Huckleberry Finn's time, it's okay to call African-Americans by that particular word), I do see the need for a socially morale code in what we say; for example, we keep preaching about respecting others culture, so we should respect the fact that I don't eat pork, I do not work on Saturdays, the food I eat must be kosher, etc and I in turn will not force you to get circumcised, force the government to ban pork (like some want to ban gay marriage) because of religion, etc. And thus, by respecting other cultures, we have no excuse to try to censor out a part of our history by modifying our culture of the past (which I thank to goodness is no longer practiced by the mainstream).

We were having such fun, and then you had to bring reason, logic, and moderation (as opposed to moderators) into the discussion.

The footage was edited for Fox News and it was made to appear as though she was confessing to screwing over white farmers as revenge for the way she herself had been treated. She was forced to resign even though the NAACP KNEW it was bullshit as they were the recipients of the actual undoctored speech. How does being fired for actual current hate speech made on public forums (or even in private conversations that you've asked to be recorded) compare to official Congressional investigations of people for decades-ago membership in groups that were later seen as Communist front groups? How does it compare to being driven into exile? To losing residency status? To going to prison for a refusal to name the names of other people who belonged to these organizations?

No, I wouldn't want a 911 operator who sees blacks as inferior, as I wouldn't trust her to do as thorough or helpful a job in the case of an emergency on the part of one of my black neighbors. Similarly, I wouldn't want a police officer who thought that whites deserved to get robbed due to a generally higher economic status, or a firefighter who loudly complained about Jews leaving candles burning all night on the menorah.

Yes, all censorship is dumb. It's an inherently irrational process. You don't have to be right to ban dissent, but you do have to be right to convince people using rational processes. If we want to believe more true things and fewer false things, we should use rational processes, like, for example, arguing our opponents down fairly, without lying or using fallacies.
