I'd strongly advise against using any NFA items for such things.

Why so?

There's a very long history of prosecutors trying to bury people who use NFA items in self defense even when it's entirely justified. When someone hears you used a suppressor or a machine gun or something to kill somebody they tend to immediately assume you're evil and they try to throw the book at you.

The Gary Fadden case is a really good example.
