The military isn't in the habit of selling soldiers their weapons. Likely you shot an AR built to look like an M4. My Bushmaster is one of them. I personally prefer the A1 or A2 look.

Operation: Desert Storm (Gulf War) 1990/8/2
War on Terror 2001/9/11
Please fact check before you post. The main focus of Gulf War (and Operation: Desert Sabre) was the fact Saddam didn't pull out of Kuwait in the allotted time given to him.
As for WTC, that happened in 1993., Assuming we are not talking about 2001 9/11 attacks.

Bad news though:
Since the belt-feed is self-contailed in the upper, it is considered its own firearm for some reason.

That's not how that works.
That is how it works though. Century Arms imports Russian weapons, takes them to a customs neutral warehouse, and replaces all the main important parts with American made parts. Namely the receiver and trigger grouping and things like that. That's how they can get around the import ban. Because technically to the ATF, the trigger grouping and receiver are the "firearm" part and so as long as those are made in America and on the gun, then it's fine.

Let's go point by point.Century Arms imports Russian weapons
Wrong.takes them to a customs neutral warehouse
Wrong.replaces all the main important parts with American made parts. Namely the receiver and trigger groupings and things like that.
Wrong. That's how they can get around the import ban.

Wrong.
Literally everything you just said was wrong. This is how Century imports an AK:
First, they do not come from Russia due to sanctions against Russia. No one is importing any firearms from Russia right now. Secondly, what weapons they do get are sent straight to the United States in a "sporter" configuration as to abide by the 1989 Assault Weapons Import Ban put in place by President Bush. Third, they then replace small parts such as trigger groups (drop-in parts), muzzle devices (drop-in parts), and furniture (drop-in parts) to abide by 922(r) while having no affect on the function of the firearm. In the case of most WASRs, they also weld material onto where the bayonet lug would be (was removed per 1989 import restrictions), then reshape that metal back into a bayonet lug. The 922(r) compliance only needs to be applied to firearms they are returning to "assault weapon" configuration, and only those firearms. The receivers, barrels, and literally everything else are going to be 100% original and foreign-manufactured. The BATFE also does not consider a trigger grouping of any sort to be a firearm unless it is a registered drop-in auto sear that's being considered a machinegun for NFA purposes. The fact a firearm is built on a US receiver will also not make it no longer need to abide by 922(r) compliance guidelines.
Where are you getting all of your information? Mine comes from people in the industry.Big Jim P wrote:

I know a lot of former military guys that refer to basically every AR as an "M4" out of habit, to be fair. The Empire of Pretantia wrote:Quick way to tell the difference between an AR-15 and an M4/M16.
Is the person holding it in a military uniform?
If yes, it's an M4/M16. If no, it's an AR-15.
You sure?

Technically speaking, all M16s/M4s are AR-15s, but not all AR-15s are M16s/M4s. I know "AR-15" generally refers to only civilian rifles today (thanks to Colt trademarking that name for their civilian rifles), but technically speaking, the M16 and M4 series are all just very specifically-configured AR-15s.Pax Nerdvana wrote:I like the looks of the M16 more than the M4 personally.
