Yes. An AR15 in .223 Is an excellent beginners gun. Easy to use, relatively cheap to feed, plenty of customization options, available in more powerful chamberings if you want.

Nah. Best pistol in my opinion is either the Beretta 92 or the Walther PPK.
(It’s not size, it’s how you use it.)
Best rifle’s going to be the M16A2/A3/A4. The 416’s basically a German AR-18, but it’s still okay. Better than an AK in the very least.
