Daily reminder that Franco Beretta flushes better weapons down his toilet each day than ever rolled off of a Cobray assembly line.
Also, you're only half right. I am a butthurt Californian.

A .22 is a great first rifle for a lot of reasons. There's really no reason to start with a 20-gauge shotgun, a 12 really doesn't kick much more, but has more versatility, greater ammunition-type availability, and is more practical for pretty much everything from shooting clays up to home defense.

Revisionist lies. No good weapon has come out of Italy in at least 1,500 years.

I've heard that before. What type of 12 GA would you guys recommend?

I have a Remington 870 clone, an actual Remington 870, a Winchester Model 12, a Montgomery Ward field gun (Is a Stevens I think?) And a poor poor Winchester 1897...
Of these, the Remington and clone are my favorites. While they have history, I'm not a fan of the Model 12, and the 1897 is non-functional

For a first shotgun? Well the traditional recommendations are a Remington 870 or a Mossberg 500. For what it's worth I'd say go with the Mossberg unless you can make sure the Remington is, oh I'd say about 10 years old or so, their quality control became garbage in the last decade (give or take).
