I don't see the point of smacking, often parents don't tell kids what they did wrong, they just smack the kid and say "You know what you did wrong". I was beaten as a child, even when I begged for my father to stop, he didn't. I forgot what I did wrong, I just remembered the belting not what I did wrong. Many parents go overboard and that is why I am anti-smacking.

When I was grounded I lost all privelages no tv, no music, I wasn't even permitted to start a conversation unless it was to relay an important message like "The house is on fire". If I have kids I'll ground them in the same manner. No computers, tv, music, smart devices, etc. the only things they'll be allowed to do are homework and chore related.

Heh, my parents did both groundings and beatings. If I got "online" homework" I would of been forced to do it in a library.

I was the third category at secondary school. Because of not bothering, I quickly started slipping after a year of A-levels and fell behind pretty quickly at University.

well an unruly toddler is a feature of the age. parents think that spanking makes them more well behaved but all that really happens is that they grow up a bit and behave better because they are more mature.

I wasn't talking about toddlers though and I've explained in another post in this thread that patience is one of the main aspects of good parenting.
