Out of curiosity, is it possible to have them removed, or are they biologically bound to you for life?

It's pretty easy, actually. From a surgical standpoint.

Hmm. Interesting. Expensive, though, I assume? And what is it replaced with?

what determines sex? there are girls born without vaginas. there are girls born with penises on their foreheads. there are girls born with penises and vaginas. it's actually pretty ridiclous, imo, to say that people can be born with no penises, two penises, a penis and a vagina and a penis on their forehead or occasionally just be born without a brain at all but strictly refuse to even contemplate ever that they were born with a penis instead of a vagina i mean that's just insanity!

Yes, absolutely.
Binary sex categorization is very... iffy, anyway. Basically:
Sex characteristics consist of chromosomes, genitals, hormones, secondary sex characteristics, and usually things like amounts and locations of body hair and body shape characteristics. The thing is, all of those vary wildly throughout the human population... if somebody has, say, a penis, no testes, XX chromosomes, breasts, and facial hair, what is their sex? Intersex? What is the "correct" gender to assign them? More subtle examples exist, of course. Hormone variation in humans is wild. I think many people need to accept that biological sex isn't as much of a binary rigid system as they think it is. And from that, how can the social construct of gender be so rigid also?

Yes. This especially applies to many nonbinary people, some who have physical dysphoria and some who don't. I think I'd like some hormone treatment, maybe one day. It would likely make me feel comfortable, but I don't believe I need it, or surgery. Gender, for me, is not tied as much to physical characteristics.

I mean, I'll probably never understand the little details about what makes a person transgender, and that's okay, because I recognize that it's really something very hard to understand for people who have not personally been through it, but that shouldn't stop anyone from treating Trans people with the respect they deserve as a fellow human being. In the end, their gender identity doesn't hurt anyone or make them a worse person, so I see no reason to persecute them for it.

Posts like these make me think there might be some hope for the human species after all. :)

I haven't yet started even on the hormone therapy, but my hope is to get to the point where I can get rid of my breasts, womb and ovaries. Not sure if I'll ever have the guts (since it can go truly horribly wrong) or desire to get a peniplasty (constructing a penis from available tissue, that is) done, since it wouldn't give me a fully functional penis in any case.

So, no, not bound to be for life, but getting to that point will be a long time for me, possibly years, since the therapy (and hormone therapy) takes a lot of time. The good side is that universal healthcare means I don't have to pay through the nose for all of it.

Arkolon wrote:Hmm. Interesting. Expensive, though, I assume? And what is it replaced with?

Lol, the womb? With what's in a male body in that area; nothing. In inactive state the womb doesn't get bigger than a fist (often smaller), so it's not like there's going to be a huge gaping empty space left.

Ah. Well this is something we regularly do to cats. Obviously with humans the medical expenses are a bit higher, but the procedure itself is not difficult.

Could an artificial penis ejaculate, though? Or is it just a lump on a body and nothing more?

Well, artificial penises are not something we regularly do to cats to the best of my knowledge. I'm not sure if it would be possible to make an artificial penis ejaculate, but there wouldn't be any seminal fluid for it to ejaculate in any case so...

Anyway, it was a completely reconstructed Corpus Cavernosum (I think), so there is still hope in science. Just a matter of more funding and waiting.

Depends what you mean by "artificial penis". If you mean one constructed out of a vagina/other tissues in that area, then obviously not. If you mean an actually artificial, one made from plastic or silicone, there are ones that can, obviously you'll have to fill the reservoire with your choice liquid... and no, I don't have one of those, and no, I'm not going to link to any sites that explain it any closer... XD

I'm already impressed with what science has managed up to that point. I think the experiment was concluded in 2009. Anyway, we're still some long ways away from doing the same to female rabbits, but at least stuff's moving along.

Well, considering they used autologous cells - the male rabbit's own cells, and basically gave them the framework to grow into, with all the recent-ish similar feats (I think there was a group who managed to regrow a pig's heart, one that beat and kept to the rhythm), managing to recreate a male organ out of male cells is a bit "meh". Even the whole preamble just talked about regrowing/restoring men's penis tissues. Probably male researchers, I didn't check.

But to manage the same with female cells? Now that'd be something, since the cells lack the "instructions" to grow penile tissue. (I know, not that simple, hence the quotation marks.)

I believe that you are born male if you have a penis, and vice versa, however what mental decisions you choose to make are your own. As long as you arent whining about privilege and attempting to silence the rights of others whilst gaining rights for yourself, there is no issue.

Well, it's at least a step closer to growing a complete and fully functioning penis. I guess I should mention that this experiment was done in 2003, not 2009.

Well, then hopefully what I say will make you reconsider.

Your gender isn't determined by what biological sex you are, since gender and sex are two different things. People often "choose" their gender, whether it be because of a inclination towards one of the genders caused by their masculinity or feminity, or because they are the under the preconception that if they are a certain biological sex, they have to be the gender that matches the biological sex. Gender is ultimately a social construct, which is why some males with more "female traits" may choose to be female, and vice-versa, all while acknowledging that their biological sex is contrary to their gender.

So, it's not a political issue, and there isn't much room for opinions in the issue. You can either accept the objective facts, or be stubborn.
