The problem here is not so much that he objects to a person who he deems questionable out of an important office.

What the problem is that he KNOWS this stuff, he KNOWS that this happened before and yet he goes ahead and does it. How do you fuck up so badly that you're even the first governor indicted since 1917 for the same shit the 1917 governor did God only knows.

Right, so a Texas Grand Jury indicted Perry for abuse of power...to distract from the IRS scandal.

Speaking of distractions, weren't you the one who brought up the long-since-dropped IRS scandal in a thread devoted to Perry's indictment?

Perry vetoed funding for the state anti-corruption unit to force a district attorney to resign after she was convicted of drunk driving.

I think a felon as DA is unacceptable. It's like having Nixon as the Press Secretary! Still, Rick Perry is abusing his power.

She wasn't just convicted of drunk driving. She threatened the arresting officers with the loss of their jobs, dropped names of powerful friends, and eventually had to have a special hood put on her so that she wouldn't spit on them. This should have been a slam-dunk for him, but he screwed the pooch on it.

I think she needs to be indicted for the same abuse of power.

Looks like I was wrong. Even a misdemeanor worthy of a month and a half of jail isn't exactly a model citizen nonetheless. I wouldn't want her in charge of pressing charging criminals if she's a criminal who's been a jail cell within the last year. Rick Perry did abuse his power trying to blackmail her to resign.

Why not? I would think that doing a little time might give her a better perspective on her job. I do agree that Perry overstepped his bounds, though. If he hadn't said anything about wanting her out of office but just used the veto, it probably wouldn't have been noticed, but he couldn't think it through. Great presidential material, he is.

The problem is a former inmate is heading the asylum. The image of that just doesn't sit well with me.

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Gov. Rick Perry has been indicted for abuse of power after carrying out a threat to veto funding for state public corruption prosecutors.

The Republican governor is accused of abusing his official powers by publicly promising to veto $7.5 million for the state public integrity unit at the Travis County District Attorney’s office.

He was indicted by an Austin grand jury Friday.

Perry said he’d veto the funding if the district attorney, Rosemary Lehmberg, didn’t resign. Lehmberg had recently been convicted of drunken driving. The state’s Public Integrity Unit operates out of her office.

When Lehmberg refused, Perry carried out his veto, drawing an ethics complaint.

DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUNNNNNN!

Everyone's favorite governor has been charged with abuse of power. I have no idea how the American justice system and laws work so I'll just say "bad governor, bad" and pretend to squirt him in the face with a water bottle.

So, NSG. Is your favorite Texan getting what he deserves?

No, but if he does get indicted, this will hurt texas as a state.

It will show that texas has bad leadership, which intern will have texas as a label of "Bad state". Texas is known for being a right, conservative, republican state that loves guns and hunting. And most people in the north think texas is weird and having rick perry indicted will fuel the flames of "Texas is strange. we don't like Texas". I live in Texas and I am a texan my self.
