Religion can explain most things with thin or little evidence whereas Science can't explain very much but of what it can explain it has brilliant evidence for it! So I'm a bit on the fence while leaning on the side of Religion.

So, NSG, what is your religious affiliation (or lack thereof), and why?

Personally, I'm an agnostic atheist. I used to be an evangelical Christian, but I left because of the church's views on lgbt rights & related issues (also ken ham & YEC). I briefly looked for a different denomination, but then realized that I don't really believe in god, and I have zero motivation to be religious or participate in rituals, like attending church or praying. If there actually is a heaven, I think I'm a good enough of a person to get in.

So, what do you believe, or not believe, and why? Do you think society would be better off if everyone held the same beliefs as you? Pls explain

I'm a pagan-influenced Luciferian, and I truly hope that most people will never hold the same beliefs as myself. They'd probably take it way too seriously and way too far.

Question for all you Christians out there. From an atheist standpoint I fail to see how anybody could worship a god who is literally responsible for every tragedy on earth. If god is omnipotent as you claim, couldn't he have easily prevented the holocaust and other genocides? Also, how could a "Good" god condemn somebody to eternal damnation? Either god dosent exist or he's a mass murdering maniac, and hence I refuse to worship him.

The way I view it, God transcends created reality. He is not part of it. The Universe is a story he has created. He has inserted himself into the story in some places. One example would be Jesus who is like an author writing a character who is themselves into the story. All pain and suffering then exists to serve the story in the same way it does when an author includes pain and suffering in a book.

As for the second question. I don't think God punishes people with eternal suffering. He gives a one time punishment and then they are destroyed forever.

Agnostic atheist. I think it's unlikely that there is a higher being in the universe, but there is no way to be certain. I would take the Pascal's wager approach, but the practices and beliefs of different religions are too varied for that so I instead try to be a good person without religious influence. My thoughts are that if there is a God or Goddess he she or they can hopefully appreciate that. If they can't then they are tyrannical and undeserving of my praise.
