Honda Civic (european version, I'm european), black, 5 doors, 1.8 140 hp, year 2011. It's good for almost every use.
But I also own a Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR4, red, year 1993. And, of course, I especially love this last one.

This pleases me.

My Ford's been real good to me. It's not too bad on gas for a truck, it's got more than enough power for what I use it for, and the oil filter is in such a convenient place.

Agreed. My Saab notwithstanding, I don't trust GM products (generally speaking).

Saabs are made from the same stuff as other GM products are.

Indeed. But the way the Swedes have put the cars together is a different beast all in its own right. Plus, the car I'm working towards now (a 2006 92x) is actually a rebadged WRX. Toyota knows how to build cars quite well. It's just I prefer the Euro-flavor. Dig?

Their pickups are fine, actually. Most American brands are fine when it comes to pickups, it's cars where GM falls short.

Cars? I dunno. How about finances? How about customer satisfaction? How about common sense? The only brand worse is Chrysler (Dodge and Jeep having proven themselves as exceptions).

But.... I may just be letting my pro-Ford bias cloud my judgement. And that bias is purely oriented in the Ford Europe camp rather than Ford North America.

That varies pretty widely from car to car, an F-150, Viper, or Corvette are almost completely made in America. Some GM SUVs follow pretty closely, along with the Mustang and the Taurus. Toyota and Honda are also making a lot of cars with high US parts content, but the corporate profits still go to Japan. If you wanted a car wholly made in a single country, from any county, you'd have to go back into the 1980s and get an AMC.

No, if you really want a car made in Mexico you should buy a Volkswagen. The VW's made for US sale have next to no German parts, folks.

Fun fact: the Rover V8 started life as a Buick/Oldsmobile engine in the early 1960s.

I'm no fan of the Volkswagen, but bringing out the Nazi association is a little unfair. It's like saying you shouldn't drive a Ford because old Henry was an anti-Semite. A beetle is... pretty efficient, and cute in its own way.

Wow, that's cool. I've always wanted a old american 50's car. It's a great engine as well, loads of power. Especially with a bit of tuning.

 Right. In addition to my mortgage, my house has cost me $55,000 so far since 2010. Then there are the intangible costs.

Indeed. I love it. Especially considering that for what I payed for this dump in NY, I could have paid cash for a nicer place in Texas, TWO new cars and had $30,000 left over. Lesson learned though.

Usually I say "a Holden Calais V" but in the time between this car thread and the last, I've sold that one and bought a new dual cab Ford Ranger. Nowhere near as much fun as my old Calais but I really needed a ute.
