My experience is that some white people from Maine are VERY sheltered and they get confused when they have to interact with anyone that is not white and from Maine cos they aren't used to it. I recently met a guy from Maine who was living in Massachusetts and treated it like he'd immigrated to a foreign country because it was "over 400 miles" from where he grew up. Some of them probably just need to have it explained that there are other places besides Maine and other people besides Yankees in the world.

It's just a question of what people are used to. When I first moved to Boston, I thought it was quiet and peaceful cos I had moved there from Shanghai. These days, now that I don't live in the city anymore, I think Boston is too noisy and crowded.

Texas ‘sovereign citizen’ sets dumpster fire, reports self missing to set up police ambush

Police arrested a self-described “sovereign citizen” accused of shooting at police and firefighters after setting fire to a trash bin in Dallas.

Emergency crews responded to the dumpster fire about 3 p.m. Monday, when the man opened fire on officers.

Police said the gunman, who was the subject of a missing persons report filed that afternoon, threatened a babysitter who retreated into a nearby home with an 8-year-old girl.

No one was wounded by the gunfire, which struck a fire engine in the area.

Police said the man, identified as 60-year-old Douglas Leguin, called 911 to say he was part of the anti-government sovereign citizen movement.

Investigators said the man apparently set the Dumpster fire and called in the missing persons report as part of a planned ambush on officers.

The man, who was armed with an AK-47 and wearing a towel or bandana around his head, set off a smoke bomb and shot off propane tanks during a brief SWAT standoff.

He surrendered to police and will be charged with seven counts of aggravated assault on a public servant.

My friend took a road trip up there, Mexican woman with Mexican/Native American then children (or at least one of them was part Apache and Yaqui, I don't know about the other kids, but more than one from the same father is a safe assumption). And she said the people in the store seemed to be avoiding her, she figured they weren't used to brown people.

To be honest, the idea that this story had anything to do with racial profiling would have never crossed my mind weren't it for the framing of the story. I still think that's Ohio's matter to deal with alone.

Yeah, I know it happens here. But there's two black people I've seen in Fort Kent and talked to (both students at the college), and they've never seemed to be treated any different as far as I'm aware. The really big thing around here is if you're French or from away. If you're from away and don't speak French or have any local relatives, you can expect the police officers and especially the game wardens to give you a hard time, and to be gossiped about all around town and more or less ignored beyond common curtiosy to your face, really. But that's about it. One of those two black people was from Quebec City and got on everyone's good side pretty quick cause of that.

Crisse, all I wear is clothes I made, both knit and pelts, and I get stopped by the border guards almost every single time for looking suspicious. Granted, that's nowhere near as severe as actually being put in jail or beat up, though. Don't really care all that much, though, since they aren't doing any material damage aside from wasting time.
