Daesh is an Arabic acronym for ISIS, it's insulting to say the least so that's why most of us use it. Plus I don't want to call them a state, that's giving them far too much legitimacy.

How is Daesh pronounced? Die-esh? Daysh?

I've always said it as Die-esh, I'm pretty sure that's correct but I'm not certain.

Ironic how the U.S. is effectively supplying Daesh with weapons by providing them to the Iraqi Army.

We might need to rethink our strategy or lack thereof it is not working well. The Delta Force raid was great, but this means we are probably going to be forced to provide more boots on the ground.

The Iraqi Army folks, proving how incompetent they are once again. It's sad when the militias and foreign volunteers have a better track record than the army.

They didn't need to prove anything, everyone already knew they were incompetent. And as the Foreign volunteers are (mostly) former military from assorted country's it's not surprising that the track record is better.

The Iraqi Army has long been little more than a political patronage and money laundering scheme. And the soldiers are more loyal to their tribe than the disfunctional central government.

So tribal militias and heck even mercenaries fight better. People often join the Iraqi Army with no intention of actually fighting.

Morale is the most important weapon of war. Without morale even the best equipped army will flee.

Technically it was the 160th SOAR with the helicopters. But the Night Stalkers often work with Delta so it is not surprising, the Night Stalkers usually provide the aviation for these sorts of ops.

IIRC this thread even had a post or two pages back that said it was a mistake of the US to disband it.

Both incarcerations of the Iraqi were/are immensely corrupt and the old Army only had Republican guard units that actually fought, the rest surrendered. From what i remember the original Iraqi Army was disbanded to prevent a coup when the U.S eventually left.

Which is rather hilarious considering that the 'original' Iraqi army in both wars folded up rather fast. IIRC it was the Republican Guard and foreign fighters that caused most of the problems in the invasion of Iraq back in 03.

If you go on Wikitravel and look up a random place, some interesting tidbits are sure to spring up. For example, I looked up Swaziland and a warning came up as follows:

I'm usually not this kind of guy but:

Fuck the Iraqi Army, we need troops there. The Kurds are getting pushed back, the various militias and foreign volunteers are getting hammered despite what everyone is saying and Iran does not have the local support or logistics to continue a sustained open field combat with ISIS.

Seriously, Special Forces are good when you have conventional, not-going-to-bail-out-on-a-fucking-huge-defensive-advantage, decently trained, decently armed, prepared army to fall back on. If not, then you're getting into a grinding match that you will and I repeat, will lose a shit ton of irreplaceable soldiers.

Those are my two cents.
