It just shows the fundamental aspects of most movements of this nature. Sometimes people will gloss over the values of a movement if it's the enemy of my enemy, that sort of thing. Of course, by doing so, they are putting themselves up for some good real estate on the gallows.

I guess that depends wether it would be legal to fight for the Peshmerga. In alot of nations it would be considered illegal anyways, sure most people would disagree with the execution but you can't have everything i guess.
Now ofcourse in some nations its legal, like my own nation. Here its perfectly legal to fight with any foreign force as long as it isn't listed as a terrorist organization by the government, EU or UN and as long as that foreign force isn't attacking my nation. Now here's the issue, our nation 1st doesn't do executions and 2nd has a good legal system to avoid "executions on the spot".
Other then that, most nations know perfectly well who fights for who, and if they don't and lets say you fought for the Kurds or another militia which would be allowed, i'm sure you could proof it by making a single phonecall.
