Why the fuck would Rosneft want rubles, a basically worthless currency (like I get that it would be slightly annoying for western governments, but Russia's economy is so much less developed that I don't know why they wouldn't want euros or dollars), and why does the WTO's opinion matter?

It's posturing. Europe isn't really going to enforce tougher economic sanctions, because it can't afford to. Russia knows this. It's a political move, not an economic one. I think Europe and the US are in a far better position to harm Russia's economy than vice versa. Cutting off the oil would be a glorious own goal.

It's posturing. Europe isn't really going to enforce tougher economic sanctions, because it can't afford to. Russia knows this. It's a political move, not an economic one. I think Europe and the US are in a far better position to harm Russia's economy than vice versa. Cutting off the oil would be a glorious own goal.
