Farmers like stable prices. If Russia stops buying what are they to do with all that agricultural products they have left over. If they release it into there own nation, it will lower the prices which is what farmers do not want since it could drive some out of business. If they can find a foreigner buyer for the agricultural products they were going to sell Russia at the same price then all is good. If not. they need the government to buy it from them at a good price. If not, then they might destroy the products in order to keep the price stable. But this could even make prices go way high.

Call me an eternal optimist, but I haven't lost those hopes yet. There are many Russians, especially among the youth, who can change things, who think in relatively modern, original ways and who do not conform.

The Russians aren't going to starve.
It seems the majority of ordinary Russians support the ban and aren't terribly concerned.

It's important to remember that Russia at one time was a net exporter. They can fend for themselves.
