When weighing potential names one must take into consideration the outside possibility that there is intelligent life on said planet to whom we might have to one day explain where we got the name.

None of these explinations are going to reflect well:

"Planet from a video game."
"Superman's home planet!" (sure, it seems flattering...until you explain that it's a comic book...)
"Named it after a satirical commentator...would you like to meet him?" (if we're lucky they get satire, but they still would have a hard time understanding what's being satirized...if not, man...imagine trying to explain satire to an alien species...)
"After a real commentator. We'd introduce you but he's busy explaining why your arrival is part of the president's plan to harvest conservative's for organs."

"An ice ball we thought was a planet but changed our minds."

Naturally it won't be helped by admitting that we left the decision up to the internet.

Unless of course they shrug when they hear it and say, "Meh, we named you after our chief astronomer's daughter's favorite toy. Roughly translates to "My First Potty."
