On the topic, I guess you'd want to research the current micronations and see what they have in common; governments may be a bit more inclined to pay unfavorable attention to a movement of that sort that's in the middle of a population center as opposed to one more isolated in a remote or rural region, I'd think. Somebody creating their micronation out in the middle of nowhere is going to be less likely to cause much of a commotion; one in a densely populated area on the other hand, could potential cause disturbances and problems that they'd be more inclined to step on.

Now this is a really interesting question and one I totally support.

However I would first start small to gather needed experience and theoretical knowledge and face all problems small scale first.

Hence I would (yeah I know not really small) get a whole apartment building for myself. Buy or rent doesn't really matter. That would be anything from 4 to 30 families. Even better if said building has its own fenced off yard. Then put your flag on gate and write down: "welcome to Argozia".

So now you're not really a sovereign nation but you do have a lot of space to make "house laws". You would probably be the president of building council, and that gives you power to collect taxes from all inmates (I mean minions) to pay for electricity, water, heating. You could make some kind of round-robin mechanism so that each day every other denizen has to clean-up building or mow lawns. You could (in spirit of communism, but somewhat related to more known capitalism) give bonuses to people who help your community. Ways are many, painting the building, having a janitor do small fixes for everyone, make big toys for children in yard, having one woman keep all children while other work, have one geek set-up server racks for stashing music and movies...

Now this (obviously) wouldn't be real communism, because you would still depend on rest of the world for lots of stuff, but could be nice experiment, and the one I'd support.

Downside, you need 4-30 families to start it and you'll have people bitching about it from day one.

EDIT: On even smaller scale, rent a house, get lots of roommates, and put all money you earn into a cookie jar which everyone can take out of when they want. See how long you last.

you cant be a nation but you could set up a commune and how well it would work would depend on how much land you have (hint: stay out of the suburbs, land is too expensive and too developed) and how good you are at attracting like-minded people.

If out of principle this person is wanting a micronation, which is by definition is a separate "independent" entity from his "host state," I think his little experiment would last all of 10 minutes before police and or other officials say, "Hey, knock it off." /micronation
