Late to the party it seems but I must also throw in my opposition to the banning of dogs.

The primary complaints I have seen from the OP thus far

(from the original post)

1. Their dangerous

2. The dog droppings

In later posts an extra complaint was added

3. There not necessary for society to function.

Lets me tear apart these arguements even further than they already have.

1. Their dangerous

A CDC report on dog bites and fatalities in the U.S.

From this we can see between 1979-1996, nearly two decades there have been only 300 deaths from dog bites.

An NHTSA report on car fatalities in the U.S.

In a single year we can expect up to 100 times what was achieved in two decades by dogs due to automobile crashes. One could argue that this means cars are for more dangerou whatever the benefits, but if we're willing to tolerate deadly cars, far less deadly dogs should be just fine.

2. Having to deal with dog droppings.

Complaining about having to look at dog droppings, really of all the horrible stuff you have to see out their, it is dog poop that "you shouldn't have to see" forgive me if I think these priorities are quite horribly set. People all over the world have to walk through worse because of abject poverty and your complaining about a mere bit of dog excretement...

3. They are not necessary for society to function

Game consoles aren't necessary for society to function either, and I'd like to see anybody try to ban them. Not to mention while you can debate the necessity of dogs, dogs are in fact quite useful. Let me make a quick list shall I?

Since ancient times they've been helping humans hunt as well as providing security. Once civilizations started emerging they helped herd the various domesticated animals of civilizations. In the tundras of Russia, Alaska, and Canada, dogs were and in some cases still are a means of transportation across the ice and snow. Now in modern times police forces have even more uses for dogs including various detection dogs for, drug sniffing, bomb sniffing (which has also been quite useful to the United States Armed Forces thank you very much), cadaver sniffing, and general search and rescue. Even more recently we have seen a rise in service dogs, dogs that help guide the blind and deaf, dogs that can sense an oncoming epileptic seizure well in advance giving a persons caregivers warning enough to make sure the one under their care is as safe as possible, dogs that provide a source of comfort to those that are suffering from various psychological conditions, including a number of military veterans.

In short I oppose a ban on dogs, the vast majority will be opposed to it for the forseeable future and a lot of those who would oppose would have the fire power to bring down anybody that tried.

So not only have dogs historically been quite helpful to humanities survival, they are still quite useful today.

In short to the OP I cannot begin to state how much I oppose this idea.

I know some wonderfully friendly and affectionate dogs, who are more likely to lick you to death than bite you. And then there's the logistical impossibilty of banning them. So how about no?

(On topic: this proposal is entirely selfish and nonsensical. Dogs literally exist as pets, 10,000 years of selective breeding for it. They haven't driven us to anarchy yet)
